PMC Project Nickel 20260323 is a Farming Simulator 22 (FS22) 14.3km x 14.3km fictional american terrain.

In short this terrain is the next evolution of PMC Project Orange 20240609 Development, all the lessons learned from other PMC Terrains FS22.

Mainly I wanted to have GOOD farm yards, meaning flat ground on the farm yard area and the area being large enough to fit several large vehicle sheds, grain bins and animal barns/sheds. Also I wanted to have proper sized fields with round corners with good fit/alignment with roads unlike project orange which is all over the place with huge empty spaces between fields.

This terrain is planned of being the next public release after its fully working and in-game. It needs a proper name, current "project nickel 20260323" is just a working title, if you have any suggestions for a name please let me know.

Terrain design, meaning railroad tracks (dark gray line on the center), roads and farm yards are still up for review and I could easily make changes. If you have any suggestions or can spot "non working locations" on the above mapview image, please let me know.

My plan is to post progress updates into this topic as development continues, at the time of writing this the terrain is in-game, not fully working yet but it can already be used to review the design.

Yesterday fixed GDM image resolution and farmlands.XML bugs, created bale selling station aka animal dealer, then tested current terrain version on editing computer with low video settings, contracts for silage baling worked OK.

Had to split one 16 hectare size grass contract field to 8 tiny fields so Start From Zero savegames are possible and enjoyable.

Then did another in-game test for silage bale contract work, it went fine, animal dealer works OK. Now all the basic functionality for Start From Zero savegame are there (well no regular selling points yet etc).

Making some slow but steady progress, while doing real life chores and keeping an eye on world news.

Yesterday did another round of Farming Simulator 22 (FS22) design doc editing, split up large fields into smaller fields using dirt roads, also added few new farm yards and couple of field dividers (field split up without a road). This was done for the bottom 4 x 2 fields, well basically the 7 fields because I left the NW most field untouched, the southern area needs one big field.

Also design doc created big train yard for the railroad next to asphalt road.

In Giants Editor (GE) v9.0.6 had to create a lot of new field definitions. That was beyond painful, as usual. A quick quote from upcoming dev diary:

Hmm. 110 fields, eh. Smallest grass field 0.7ha, largest 52.3ha, smallest regular field 14.9ha and largest whopping 3344.5ha :)

I'm not very happy with smallest regular field being 14.9ha, now that is small yes, but its not tiny, I would like to have full coverage of lets say 2ha, 4ha, 6ha maybe 8 and 10ha fields from the smallest side of things, but guess that is OK for now, I can always go back to design doc and draw few dirt roads or field dividers to create tiny and small fields, but that is fore the future considerations.

Created and edited farmlands PNG image, at first plan was to just mock something quick up, but in the end I almost accidentally ended up GIMP painting an excellent farmlands image using my own Farmland Image Painting GIMP tutorial, was actually surprised when suddenly realized that whoah the whole image got done when the plan was to just quickly do a few farm yards ;)

Look at them perrrdy colors, its like farmland made out of candy :P

Created release packet readme, labeled first release as v0.1 and then generated it, went to test on Gaming computer where I created brand new Start From Zero savegame, unfortunately it was so late in the evening that I ran out of motivation and had to call it a night in middle of the first silage baling contract. Up to that point terrain was working fine.

Doing good progress.

Still no idea about final good name for this terrain :(

At the time of writing this reply, I have already edited one new excellent feature for the terrain, but that goes for tomorrows (or tonight's) update ;)
