Vegetation objects "sway in wind" feature

Post by Snake Man »

In the ArmA vegetation objects like trees, bushes and grass, there is this "sway in wind" feature which makes the objects move, ie sway in wind.

Does anyone have any information what we must configure/edit to make old OFP MLOD models to sway in wind?

Looking at Synide's MLOD trees it looks like "class" = "treesoft" in the geometry LOD might be the needed setting for swaying in the wind. Thanks to Synide for the MLODs! It's too bad BIS disabled the helicopter rotor wash pushing grass and bushes around in 1.08.

In our tree (palm tree in fact) object, I added into the geometry LOD these following settings:

Code: Select all

canocclude=0
map=tree
dammage=tree
class=treesoft
shadow=hybrid
sbsource=explicit
prefershadowvolume=0
And now when I load a wrp in which this tree is located, ArmA says "error loading tag" and then there is no swaying effect. Even with only the class, dammage and map properties it says the error loading tag.

Any ideas?

Heh apparently its casesensitive or that GateBuilder did them somehow wrong. Now that I used O2PE and added class "treeSoft" and "bushSoft", it works just fine. Oh my all those swaying objects :)

Thanks Solus!

Was just looking at the BIS wiki, and it looks like they'll eventually have a vegetation editor: Linda. That'll be cool.

You can use following in geo lod;

BushSoft
BushHard
TreeSoft
TreeHard

This gives life to nature objects. :D

When we make config based editor placed vegetation, they do not sway in the wind anymore. Is there some config line that must be added to provide this swaying, or are the editor (config) placed objects without this "animation" completely?
