Evening everyone, those of you who still check the website every now and then. There's something I wanted to discuss here, id assume its okay to talk about in general right? if not, just delete it, but id personally like to hear some opinions on it. Anyways, having been around the fs community for quite a while now, and I've noticed something strange with the general release of fs25.
It might just be me, but it seems as if map making, especially maps larger than 4km, have been much slower compared to fs22 and fs19 in relation to how long the game has been released. Most maps which are larger than 4km, 8km for example, are just "low effort" fictional maps, with just a ton of random square fields and lines of the same trees over and over again.
It seems as if most of the real DEM/ terrain modders for maps larger than 4km have just... vanished. Hubbard, Spring Creek, Nebraska, Western Australia 8km, etc, have seemingly fell off the face of the earth. Replaced by... "Kansas 16x" and "Juotca Flat Map 16X" which in my opinion are just... dead. It just doesnt feel the same, ya know?
I've attempted to make my own, a 1:1 scale 8km map based on the Millennial farmers location https://www.reddit.com/r/farmingsimulat ... esota_16x/
, and a 1:1 16km Australia location, but its very time consuming and being inexperienced I'm not really sure what I'm doing. Though, I have made progress. And I guess that may be the issue at hand, maybe we haven't seen these large maps because they are a pain and super time consuming to port over/make more so than in previous titles. and those who had time/ liked that gameplay just don't play anymore, or left due to whatever reasons. Mod scalpers, lack of game/GE optimalization and many different things being the key causes. I wonder if this process could ever be made easier? Of course now we have maps4fs, but its "functional" at best when it comes to making larger terrains, still though, a step in the right direction?
I find it strange even after all these years giants is STILL using its old game engine, sure its "updated" but its still the same at its core, no? it still has a few of the same flaws and hard issues its had even a decade prior right? I never understood why they never considered using a new engine or making a new giants engine from scratch, but id assume it would take to much time and money too. Its more cost effective to release a new title with some changes and a new UI and call it a day id suppose.
Id love to hear yalls opinion on this, i wish i could find a group of people who i could pay to develop a map for me, idk who to trust, its all scammers nowadays. at this point im willing to pay big money to see some larger irl terrains return, 8km, 16km, and whatever 36x the standard map size is in km. ones that arnt sub-par conversions from older titles plagued with errors that don't even work right.
but who knows, maybe we will see something soon, maybe not. I feel like the modding scene as a whole is slowly dying out. but that's just me, and look if you see it differently and think I'm totally wrong, feel free to grill me in the comments below, like I said any feedback is nice atp.
Anyways, thats about it, Mobius out.

Re: An Interesting "Rant"
You should already know the reason, Farming Simulator 25 (FS25) terrain engine was broken by giants software when they added that useless terrain deformation, large terrains are not working with terrain deformation.

Re: An Interesting "Rant"
And id assume with future game releases its here to stay, so i guess that's the death of large terrains i suppose.
