CCC,

Are you ever going to finish the A-4 model? Or turn it into an A-4M "humpback"? That model could then be used BOTH for the Vietnam theater (USMC A-4's) and the Desert Storm Theater ("Free Kuwait" A-4's!).

You mean THE pod or a/c? :D
that pod is based on nice line drawings. its scaled to correct dimension.
The a/c, its G2/F12's job. Im WAITING some better tomcat mod too :D

for A4, hope we could have this model in f4, someday. http://www.kitparade.com/features01/skyhawkjh_1.htm

Due to the uncertainty of F4SP 3d protocol, i hesitate to do further modeling.

I really can't for a new Tomcat model either :) Any idea what the impact of this new 3D protocol will be? I can throw away all my nice new 3D models that you 3D-gurus made?

Hi CCC

Just to echo Snakeman.

You can carry on with LOD creation as any models we make now will be converted automatically to Erazor's new 3d engine format.

It is also likely that the engine will not make the first SP release (or even the second) so there is no need to stop (please ;)).

I remeber Ripper spent lots hours on modifing missile and bombs with HEX-editng, no easy job. Now with LodCompiler, everyone can generate superb TEXTURED models in minutes..though lod can be converted to new format, it seems new engine make modeling rather easy.. could I regret why i spend so much time on modeling then? :)

Hi CCC

No worries.

BTW - I have uploaded some line drawings to the F4LE group of the MiG29 and I noticed last night that one of them has the centerline fuel tank on. Maybe useful if you haven't already done that one.

Hi CCC

Lol - that was fast :)

You do realise we are going to have to do our own version of Janes to document all these toys ;)

Later and keep'em coming.

Hmm.
Very true, but what could you call it?
EA had Janes.
DID had World Air Power Journal.
Ea/Sonalysts have that Naval info group.

Maybe a Falcon database of stuff might be in order, and say "this is official."

Thinking...

PS: if you use 3ds max, you can texture-map the model, then convert model and its mapping data together to lod.

I'll take a rest and enjoy flying..or gaming.

Take a look at this link, i've prepared lots rought 3ds model in stock, no one flyable in F4, for near one year.
This guy is amazing, he picked one, and ready it for play in days.

Dude take a break, you deserve it!

You've made so many toys that I'm going to have a heart attack trying to get them all included in the database edits! :^)

One quick question, where are the files for these toys you've posted? I have quite a few of them already, but thinkgs like the Tornado fuel tank and others I can't find anywhere.

well, you got most of them right?
give me a list what you short of. i'll mail them.

BTW, cant resist to model something last night..
Since talented lod-restructuring masters are occupied by their projects, an idea comes to me: " low-quality, naked, quick-built 3d pit"

This idea wont need ANY help like texture artists or lodtree restruction, and be purely 3d modeling with 3ds max.

it took me few hours, the result appeared " acceptable". Aeyes and Ripper should have played with first sample for a while. If 3d modelers could take this idea, soon we can fill all blanks of 3d pit, he he, F4SP coders should consider a built-in 3d pit switcher in first exe now. :D

wait, dont get me wrong, im not working on serious project. just a "concept-proving" toy, though ComGp has shown it doable months ago.
:o
2. modeling the cockpit first, then do the visible wing/fuselage part. you can delete those polys than wont be seen from cockpit.
3. since 3d pit is a single model used in padlock view, you can DETAIL it with more polys. i.e., use more polys on canopy rim, to make the curve even smoother.
4. if you run "calc normal" function in LE, you could mistakenly flip all inward normals outward. dont run this function. other functions like Verify model and shade reducer/calc should be excuted to eliminate bugs and errors.
5. the most headache thing is "position the pilot's eye on zero point". you need some pic for reference. The zero point of pit lod shoud be located on pilot's eye position(when he sit in the pit). subtle change could distort the whole perspective view in 3d pit. could take you lots effort to make it right.
6. no idea to adjust HUD/MFD/RWR projection yet.
7. For lift-lines and canopy reflection, their modeling conecpt is easy, feel free to check lod#1.

You want vaportrails? The Su-34 has them...

http://pookieweb.dyndns.org:61127/f4ter ... trail2.jpg

Thanks to CCC for the info to place them correctly!

The Su-34's not complete yet, but almost there! Just need to address a few minor details that are left, and give it a good texture mapping!

Expect this in the F4SP....

Thanks! After talking about the wingtip vaportrails and seeing Ripper's work, I decided I'd try to add them. They function just like the normal vaportrails.

I look forward to taking these on in the EF-2000. Com_GP just sent me an updated version that has afterburners so I think we'll be making progress on this soon.

And yes, I know about the raw models! :^) These shouldn't take too much time. Setting the splits will be the trick but I have a plan - use the Mig-21's 3D model as the "template", cut out all the polys for the Mig-21, then block import the different subtree nodes from the raw aircraft. The tree structure will be correct, and a small amount of tweaking for the splits should be the only thing left.... we'll see how it works out.

I need some confirmation on the Su-34's loadout, as I don't find any info for these weapons, but I have photos plainly showing some of them on display either on or beside the aircraft (at airshows):

AS-18 / Kh-59M
AS-17 / Kh-31P/A
AS-14 / Kh-29
AS-13 / Kh-59
KH-41 / 3M80 Moskit (Mosquito) ASM

These (except AS-14) aren't in the data files yet, but a KH-41 3D model is being developed by Spike right now. I think only one KH-41 can be carried in the centerline hardpoint both on the Su-34 and Su-33 but nothing else (except the large bombers). Hehe, its an air-launched version of the SS-N-22 Sunburn - Mach 3 missile! Ouch.

Great. Spike's models' superb! Look at his latest russian bombs! Jerry, feel free to drop my humble models, ask Mike and Spike to build better ones!

For KH41, i wonder we can fully model it.
some pics( on Venik) showed the air inlet protected by a dome-shaped nose cover. Once launched, the cover will be blast off to reveal the nose-cone intake.

BTW, eager to wait F104, G4, and Jag fully converted. Im busy with Dragon's project, Mac team moves pretty fast :D :D

What exactly is an "Alfa" missile? Can't find that designation anywhere.
