WoW !
This is Great news!
Will it have Copy & Paste? A road laying tool (there is allredy one out there) and is there any chance of a pre-public release to Mod groups as I am a member of the TA mod and I have chosen to delay map production untill larger maps are possibul.

This sounds really exciting. When do you think you can release it. I have a map in progress and would love to give it a try.

WRPTool project page has been updated at http://www.pmctactical.org/ofp/wrp.php

Answers to some of your questions, sorry about this taking so long but we were somewhat "busy" etc, but here we go.
Will it have Copy & Paste?
Fact: Not at this time.
dreams: I would very much like to see copy-paste.
A road laying tool
Fact: Not at this time.
dreams: This has been our goal for long time and we definitely want to see automatic road placement between cities for example. However, we haven't got "there" yet to code such routine.
is there any chance of a pre-public release to Mod groups
Fact: no idea.
dreams: no idea... heh really, this has never occured to me yet. we arent actually working here for the community in that sense, we want to get this util done and to create nice islands, of course we will give it out to the public then too. But no specific schedule/program has been designed to give it out "before release" to any specific people.
When do you think you can release it
Fact: no idea, hey lets use this: When Its Done.
dreams: really its crap right now, you have have spend countless nights with us talking about each and every objects.txt forest.txt etc configuration nitpick before you get it even to run. when it starts to be somewhat useful for average user, then we might start to think about releases.
I have a map in progress and would love to give it a try
Fact: at this exact moment, WRPTool does not read the format that WrpEdit from OFPIternals reads (and what are the official islands).
dreams: we would like to have support for both wrp formats as there are many islands build or being currently worked on.
How far is work on the WRPTool?
Fact: we just updated the page :)
dreams: next update comes when we have something to show :)
Can we expect a test version soon?
Fact: no.
dreams: really I have no idea, but I guess this was answered already.
Do u need some Beta-Testers?
Fact: again, this issue has never come up yet. I've been the lonely beta tester during the dark nights when Everon's lights go out and... hrr uh sorry :)
dreams: yeah I could imagine we would take some beta testers to verify the utility in few hardware and island configurations. No idea beyond that like when or how etc.

---
There you go, most of the answers for the questions posted here. As you see I take this weird attitude about answering, cold hard facts which we can deliver today and then some dreaming stuff which we would like to accomplish. This way nobody will be disappointed if something bad happens.

Ok personally I am *very* happy of the current progress and lets recap what we got; I can create 25km x 25km island in lets say pretty much in 10-15mins depending how much accuracy I want to put into the bitmap images where textures, forests and object types etc are placed, sure it looks somewhat awful with the randomly placed objects but still.

Now we just got in the object movement code, so next is the object placement (new objects created by mouse button). Then all these nice things like copy paste of multiple objects etc.

Road placing tool will be very advanced (in my retarded mind at least), we are impressed by the Cubidmoons roadtool and while I cannot make promises behalf of the coders here, I sure hope we can code a road placement function to WRPTool also. My idea for road placement was that user just marks two cities, presses "Make Road" button and BRRRRRR... WRPTool creates the best road it sees between these two city coordinates. But... no promises, we'll see what we can do.

Right now I'm going to tweak the "Vietnam 25km" island with the brand new WRPTool code and hopefully I could fix it up nicely so we can release a "25km wrp demo" for you guys with couple of missions too. This will be using SEB NAM Pack 2, so if there still is some lost OFP child who hasn't got himself to install that absolutely brilliant "addon/mod/pack", go ahead and do it now, it is so great.

Oh I think that pretty much covers it, for one post at least. Fee free to ask more specific questions.

I look forward to the wrp tool!

I have a suggestion to add bushes and trees randomly. For instance maybe your prompted to add so many hundreds of one type of bush.

Pics look great!

You can already do this with our current code. Random object placement has been in place for long time now. You can specify what p3d objects, how many overall, how many per cell and then the bitmap on which areas they should be placed.

There is small 2.5mb technology demo SEB NAM Pack 2 island created by WrpTool in just 4-6 hours.

It shows what can be done in such small amount of time with this tool. It is not any real OFP Addon Island in that sense.

Requirements are OFP v1.91 and SEB NAM Pack 2.

There is one demo mission included.

-- this is the readme:

Vietnam 12km island

This is small technology demo of WrpTool. This Vietnam 12km island as its
called is the OFP island standard 12.8km x 12.8km sized, it uses the
SEB NAM Pack 2 objects and textures and requires that you have SEB NAM Pack 2
on your OFP v1.91 normal installation.

The point of this tech demo is that the time used to build this island was
approximately roughly 4-6 hours. This demonstrates how little time is required
to start to make island. This Vietnam 12km is no way a complete in the normal
OFP Island Addons terms and it is required that anyone testing this keeps in
mind of this "demo" theme.

Installation

Just unrar this package into your OFP dir. You can also unrar where ever you want
and manually copy the nam_12_anims dir, nam_12.pbo file into ofpAddons dir and
snake_ricepaddys.nam_12.pbo into ofpMissions dir if you want to try the mission.

After this the island is available in mission editor under "Vietnam 12km" name
and the demo mission in single player with name "PMC Ricepaddys".

more details of WrpTool which was used to create this island can be found on
our web site at http://www.pmctactical.org/ofp

Another night of WrpTool work and not much to show actually, still quite nice fixes for "under the hood" so to speak.

One quite important feature is that we now can read ALL the island formats known, what good is editor if you cannot load something there to edit, huh? :)
