Windows 10 Support Ends 2025-10-14

Post by Snake Man »

Read Windows 8.1 Support Ends 2023-01-10 topic through what has been said before with Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 as I am not going to repeat myself.

Windows 10 support (updates) ends on october 14th 2025.

Because Farming Simulator 22, Sea Power, Elite Dangerous (kind of) and even ArmA 3 through steam client doesn't work on win7/8.1 anymore I had to install abomination called windows 10 to my editing/surfing and Gaming computers, I'm sad to say.

Now yet another windows operating system runs out of time with nazi gestapo microsoft and other losers following like sheep's (*cough* Elite Dangerous, EDMC *cough*), forces you to update. I'm not going to comment about windows 11.

I am truly scared of the future, what am I going to do after win10 dies off. I am not ready to quit editing and playing all these wonderful video games, but if there are no operating system that would run them... what the hell am I supposed to do.

Turning my back to these games which includes web sites like this forum you're reading right now, seems unthinkable right now.

I know that for example Farming Simulator 19 still runs fine on even using windows 7, you could build local area network (LAN) only computer to run it, same goes for Farming Simulator 22 (win10) as that title does not require internet connection or steam (well farmsim does require internet connection to activate the serial code, hmph). However ArmA 3, Elite Dangerous and Sea Power cannot be ran anymore in outdated win10 because ArmA 3 and Sea Power requires steam which soon doesn't work with win10 anymore and Elite Dangerous is massive multiplayer online whatever game so all the game/universe data comes from internet so there is no way to play it without internet connection (outdated win10 on internet would be a bad idea, plus EDMC soon stops working in win10 same as it stopped with win7/8.1).

So while the transition from win7/8.1 to win10 was still doable with geek knowledge of how to disable win10 telemetry and automatic updates etc, right now I see the end of the road, when win10 stops getting updates you are forced to switch over to Linux Desktop.

I am scared and sad, is 2025 truly the year when my computer life style goes through a historical change :(

About one more month until windows 10 support ends. Still no idea what to do when that day comes. Well nothing is really changing, like when you get a latest update into a software (win10 in this case) it doesn't mean "the update is dead!!1" one second after its done, if you're lucky that update should last for a long time. Regarding windows security updates like anti virus updates, those get new configs etc added/edited almost daily it seems, but its those larger security updates which seems to happen only on tuesdays, I'm not sure if there are some critical security issue exceptions that you might get an urgent update on like saturday night or something.

So while win10 updates end on oct 14th 2025 it doesn't mean the operating system is dead one hour later, of course not. Its then up to each users views when they switch over to linux etc better operating system since win10 doesn't get any more updates. It probably wont take long before malware writers, hackers and other evil people find a new security flaw and start to exploit it, then because no more win10 security updates... then users are at risk, not one fraction of the second later at oct 14th.

BTW the best anti virus software and malware protection is not to visit haxx0r and porn etc websites, use your brain, you would not want to wander with fancy clothes, expensive jewelry etc on you into some dark shady back alleys in your city now would you, if you do then there is nobody else to blame for getting mugged but you ;)

I've decided to switch over to Linux, most likely Mint or Debian, but as I just said above, not sure if that is going to happen on oct 14th or "later". I absolutely from the bottom of my heart HATE with furious anger how I'm about to lose my nice win10 setup with ArmA 3, Sea Power, Farming Simulator 19, Farming Simulator 22 and Farming Simulator 25 installed, once I destroy this C: partition and install Linux desktop, then its game over, man. I'm not sure if I'm ready for that on oct 14th, it might be few weeks if not months that I just keep using this win10 install, just don't know yet.

In one way I would just like to rip the bandage off and install Linux desktop right away, be done with it and deal with the consequences later, what happens... happens, or doesn't happen in this case, like not being able to edit and play some games.

Anyways, this was just an one month until the day of death update, will be interesting but scary times ahead :o

The day of death for windows 10 has finally arrived, october 14th, 2025.

As said in previous post, nothing has changed for me. I just did my last win10 update, assuming the support ends now as its promised, but at least win7 and win8.1 still got anti-virus small updates many weeks after the support ending date. No I wont be switching to Linux Desktop today.

As further explained above I am currently running win10, I keep on running it now, nothing has changed for me. I'll keep monitoring the windows news to see what breaks first which could force me to switch over to Linux Desktop. One example would be a virtual private network (VPN) software/drivers, if those refuse to run on win10 then its game over if I cannot use internet from my daily computer operating system. But even if that happens, it means new installs cannot be made as the VPN software installer refuses to run on win10 but if you already have existing system it most likely just doesn't stop working overnight.

My Gaming computer has three SSD devices which I swap out as needed, win7, win10 and one Linux experimental one. I'll keep both win7 and win10 as they are, there is NO reason to change that, its mainly for ArmA 3, Farming Simulator 19, FS22 (and guess FS25 as well but I don't play that crap), Elite Dangerous and Sea Power.

Most likely steam client that is required for arma3 and sea power is the first to break, once that support ends then obviously if steam client doesn't work then none of the games under it wont either. Not sure if win7 still runs steam today, its been many months since I played ArmA 3 the last time. I assume FS19 and FS22 keeps on running happily under their native supported windows operating systems, well basically until the end of times. In fact my best guess is that Elite Dangerous "Market Connector" (EDMC) community software ends win10 support first, that was in fact what happened with my Elite Dangerous install being moved from win7 SSD to win10 SSD earlier in 2025.

Okay enough said, win10 support ends today (ended already?) and it changes nothing for me, it just begins a doom and gloom timer to see what breaks first in the future.

Cant wait to see what it is ;)
