Web server down time for PMC websites

This topic is about Web server down time for PMC websites, meaning the web hosting company I use has some kind of technical issue in those huge data centers and that makes PMC websites, all of them, to not work.

Very very few times during the years PMC websites, like this forum, is down because of some maintenance done by me, in fact that wont happen to regular websites, only PMC Editing Wiki dokuwiki software and PMC Tactical Forum phpBB software upgrades require short down time. Also if I migrate from one virtual private server (VPS) to another one which requires whole Linux re-installation like what happened in september 2024 with Ubuntu 16.04 server to Debian 12.7 upgrade.

This topic lists all known down times mostly from the web hosting companys side, but also includes something I have to do (hopefully "never").

So first one to list here is from yesterday, in 2024-11-10T07:09:00Z was the last timestamp I saw in my SSH connection when I got to the computer that morning, server was down, websites were all down. At the time it was already few hours passed so I immediately emailed web hosting companys customer service about the issue. Well they had some unscheduled maintenance going on and they were really sorry, aww how nice of them, but in the mean time my websites are all down. They said to check back "in few hours".

Well this few hours turned into several, then into half a day 12hrs down time, at this point I was beyond pissed. But there was nothing I could do but wait, I don't do wait, I hate waiting, being it women or release schedule, even a bus or a train not to mention a friend etc, waiting sucks, waiting is the most useless thing in the world (ok enuff joking).

Then it turned close to ONE DAY of down time before I had to get some sleep "last night".

Now I just got up moments ago and looks like web hosting company got their act together and fixed their stuff, my VPS is back up, websites are back up including PMC Tactical Forum.

I really hope that over the years this topic will get very few web server/service down time reports, because to me, even a single one is too much...
