7-Zip Archive compression packing tool.

Do no use Zip, WinZip, RAR or WinRAR anymore, use 7-zip which is far superior program to pack your files, it compresses them to much smaller file size than RAR (where RAR compresses far smaller than ZIP).

Practical example why you should never use PkZip as it cannot compress files as good a 7-Zip or even as good as RAR (but you should not use RAR anymore).

Original ArmA 3 Community Upgrade Project addons as ZIP files:

@CUP_Terrains_Core-1.4.1.zip 6.43gb
@CUP_Terrains_CWA-1.4.1.zip 2.72gb
@CUP_Terrains_Maps-1.4.1.zip 1.64gb

That is total of 10.79 gigabytes of file space required.

Then same addon dirs packed into 7-zip, this was back in 2022 so cant remember which version was used:

CUP_Terrains_Core_v1.4.1.7z 5.63gb
CUP_Terrains_CWA_v1.4.1.7z 2.10gb
CUP_Terrains_Maps_v1.4.1.7z 1.43gb

In 7-zip the total file space required is only 9.16gb so you save total of 1.63gb of HDD space just by using 7-zip!

That is insane, sure CUP is the second most biggest mod of ArmA 3 so the file size is incredibly large, average single addons are much much smaller, but point being that if you can save that much HDD space it would be just simply dumb not to do it.

If you have WinRAR installed, just go ahead and uninstall it right away and never, ever, in million years, create PkZip ie WinZip compressed archives anymore in 2024.
