PMC Script Campaigns

Post by Winder185 »

Hi Folks, hello to those who know me, Hi to those who don't.
I posted this up on Frugals a while back, but after T-Rex posted the message about the European theatre I realised that this forum is the place to post stuff from thios site.

I DL these a day or two back and tried (still trying!) out the Iron Fortress Campaign, they are made by Snakeman and seem very good, as they are not polished products and there are still e few oddities such as the TU22 model not having any wings! but that is a model thing not the Campaign.
The only real problem's I have had so far have been a brief period of terrible FPS down to 6 "ouch!" at one point, but it was very busy.
The other problem is a bit strange, I was part way into the campaign and made some alterations to an Interdiction flight, there were a lot of bandits in the op area so I saved it and was about to redirect some barcaps from another squadron, problem was I could not load up the saved file again, instead of the file name it said Uninitialized and I could not start either it, the carrier takeoff or the auto save, in the end I had to abandon it and start agin, I still have the Saved.cam if it is of any use, I made one alteration to it with Tacedit in the begining to reposition the Bullseye but nothing else.
A third point is the very low density of enemy armour, in the JSTARS replay it shows a huge ammount of enemy armour, but when you fly round the theatre they seem very thin on the ground indeed as are the SAMs I think that perhaps something goes awry with it shortly after the start.

Further to this, Myself and two other guys from the 185th have been flying the Iron Fort Campaign Online, and it absolutely ROCKS!!!!
TU22's and SU24's are swarming all over the place and with so many there are plenty who get through an drop the bombs, I had just landed at Taegu when a stick of bombs blew all the Ramp and my plane to smithereens, I heard the ATC Queen yelling "We have a flight line emergency here!!" it was all thrilling stuff (esp as I was only virtually dead, reality would suck big time in that dept!!)

I recommend anyone to give them go though as they seem pretty good and use some of the planes and ground units not yet seen, definately entertaining to say the least, looking forward to a finished product for Iron Fortress when SP4 is released (I think Iron Fortress is the best Campaign!!)

Welcome aboard Winder185

I have no experience editing savegame files with the units in them. Sorry that I cannot help you on this matter.

How about the floating bullseye from SP config editor, would that help or do you specificly want the bullseye to be on some certain location?

I hope you won't be disappointed but those campaigns were not made because I wanted to make new campaigns... they are mostly made because I wanted to demonstrate the POWER of Tacedit TCL script support. I'm not saying that I won't ever fine tune the campaigns, but yes basically they are as is and there is no plans for finished product.

Actually I cannot think of much more I could do for them anyway, some ground units are surrendering so moving them around into the roads/objectives would be one thing though.

I don't know how much you are interested of tweaking, but have you checked out the .TCL files in the PMC Korean Campaigns packet?

Those might seem bit difficult at start, but at least you can move around, add or remove squadrons very easily. Also placing brigades is very easy which only takes two (X and Y) coordinates to place them.

If you have any suggestions for tweaking those campaigns, just post them here and I might someday edit them bit more :)

Hi Snakeman,
One problem with the floating bullseye in SP3, if you have it applied it does not allow you to see new bullseye positions in TE's, as I fly online in the 185th we often Have TE's centred in many different area's in the Korean theatre and as such the TE builders will often reposition the bullseye in order to get an accurate picture, as a consequence the default for us is to have it unnaplied.

I do not know how to use, see or otherwise benefit from the TLC scripts that came with the Campaigns, is there a more basic "how to" apart from the tacedit help files (I could not really understand them)

The Uninitialized problem has resurfaced with another save game, I select the save file but am unable to get in, if I re click on the saved file name then in the Campaign descrition box it's name changes to uninitialized?

I am interestd in Campaigns and I have tried altering some saved ones but often I find that my changes either dont show or they cause a corruption of the file, hence I am wary of giving full reign to my imagination!
For example, in one attempt I moved two squadrons of aircraft to the southern Airbase of Sachon, but they were not there when I loaded the game (I did load move clock and resave first) they went to other airbases instead?! it's events like these that I do not understand, that keep me from trying out more complex stuff.

Much thanks for your reply and interest.

Further to my last, the Uninitialized problem continues to plague saved files in this campaign, I can fly a mission and then save the game (on the existing file) and when I try an reload (if I exit and then return to the game I mean) I am not able to reload the saved game and sometimes but not always the "uninitialized" wording appears, previously I had got round the problem by re-booring and going straight into the game and it would allow the file to load, but the latest incarnation of this very irritating glitch will not allow even that, hence the saved game is as good as lost, any Ideas? is it related to the scripts in some way? or is it perhaps because some of the vehicles/units are not fully implemented?
