Well, I'm right in the middle of "groundbreaking discovery" type of thing here. If you bare to wait few days, then I can really give out great info and you'll get to help us too.

So day or two... then we get something!

Yes you can, its really great util to tile the generic area. For example Vietnam type farmland and forest, all done with nice tile patters what you can specify. For Desert I made my own pattern according to the texture.bin (own made) and voila, very nice generic desert terrain was created instantly.
