Gridspacing in DEM?

Post by Guest »

Hi everybody.
Frist, let me tell you, that this map-cration-thing is really great!!!

For me three questions are important:

- Is it possible to us a DEM that has a better resolution than the GLOBE for the initial map creation?

- If not is it possible to merge some datas
into the GLOBE file to make it more accurate?

- has anybody experience with the creation of a map with high mountains and valleys in it?

i got some really low areas on my terrain. after all i'm building israel(the dead sea the lowest place on earth). the highest pick i have already built was the hermon mountain 2280 m.
if its about hight you can't add negative value if this is your question.

If you mean tiling the terrain, well it really depends on few things.
How much are you willing to tile per day, how "difficult" is the terrain to tile.

For example when I was tiling madly the Vietnam terrain for one week the result was 100 tiled segments. That was the normal Korean type green vegetated terrain. However when we are tiling Desert terrain, it is much faster as there is not much to do. Desert is desert, not much details.
Only numbers I have for Desert tiling is for 3 sets of 9 segments (I tend to tile 9 segment "packages"), fastest was 7 minutes and slowest was 16 minutes.

Please note that since the week for 100 segment job I got nice feature for TerrainView that cuts my time sorting out wrong type road/river tiles.
