Manual says you place object by selecting one from Object Browser and then ALT+LMB clicking on the map view. Also putting mouse over wanted position and pressing INS key places the selected object.

About textures loading, have you configured WrpTool correctly by unpbo'ing the addons you need and the running the Settings -> Change Settings?

Where ever you want, then you need to run Settings -> Change Setttings to point into the ROOT dir where your un-pbo texture directory is located.

Of course it would be handy to place the unpbo texture dir into the same root dir as the objects directories are.

Well there you got it wrong, you need to read the Installation part of the manual first and configure WrpTool like that. Unpbo all the addon pbo's that you plan to use, the point WrpTool Settings -> Change Settings to the ROOT directory of those directory subfolder and finally restart WrpTool so these changes take effect.

Then you are ready to load up your wilbur made island.
