Not sure if will help any I used to run ofp addons fine on old comp,,It fried I installed on new comp and when i would play it would freeze the next time i would try to play i would get your 3rd error message I would simply restart comp it would fix that but same thing would happen in game I thought may have been my Graphics card got a new big one (same thing ) so I updated my Video Drivers and all seems fine now hope this may help a link to more info on suggestion s http://www.theavonlady.org/theofpfaq/
I'll try that. But usually when I have recieved the Operation Flashpoint must close error it is because of a clash of addons, yet I don't have any unnoficial ones running in my other addon folders :-/
Those are the most conserning parts of your hardware. Now, I have no experience on this but I'd suggest the following.
1) close all programs from the task manager.
2) upgrade your display card drivers.
3) run VTE shortcut with the -nomap parameter (just to make sure you do).
Cross your fingers and fire it up... if it still crashed, I'm afraid that with my limited knowledge, I'd say that you need to buy more ram.
Try these settings as I am currently running... The game works on my machine. I think we need to troubleshoot by eliminating the variables on your machine. The settings above work flawlessly on my machine which is comparable to your, but I am running 1GB of RAM. Hope that is not the issue. After setting these parameters in the video section, run the game in basic OFP v1.96. Make sure it works. Then add a mod (or VTE) and run the game again, it should work! I cannot imagine that 500mb of RAM is insufficient to run the game.
The only other thing I can think of is increasing the allowed amount of "virtual memory" within Windows XP. I believe the game uses some of this to play the game, hence, if it runs out, the game crashes. I cannot say I have encountered this with OFP, but I have with other memory intensive games.
Try it, let us know!
If need be, we can move on to increase the virtual memory allowed to help with the lack of RAM. I say that loosely, 500mb should be enough!
Thanks for the help guys but unfortunatly not. Won't be trying VTE anytime soon.
Weird stuff. Snake Man you say it could be my ram but I run things like Flash FX and Y2K3 with no problem and I swear they take up more room than VTE when installed :-/
Not about RAM huh. Hmm. Are you sure you installed VTE correctly then, no other addons conflicting with your standard OFP installation dirs (addons/ or res/addons/)?
There is installation instruction page at our site, did you follow that, precisely?
The entire file size of all addons for VTE comes to 1.10GB, this is what is crashing it, I don't have that amount of RAM to run this off.
I am not sure it matters how much RAM you have relative to the size of the VTE files. For example, I have 1.0GB of RAM on both of my machines and with the latest VTE patch, all files in both folders (vte & vte_Common) equal 1.38GB.
I still think you are having install problems so that when you initiate the program, something is not loading up.... can you copy and paste the line within your shortcut that starts VTE? Perhaps there is something in the shortcut that is preventing you from properly loading VTE. Just thinking outloud.
ramsize is irrelevent in terms of whether this (or most other things) crash or not.
you can run vte with only a 256 meg ramstick if that gives you a thrill. You'll be playing a slomo game though
The optimum size for almost all flashpoint inspired campaigns/ missions is somewhere around 3..400meg free memory space. Something as large as vte performs a little[/b] bit better with 1gig setups but the truth lies larger in your video card's performance, than ram dimensions. You don't have to have the biggest penis on the block.
The reality is that irrespective of how big this mongrel is, 1Gig4 and climbing, it is the virtual memory of your system that takes the prize. Best bet is to get into your windows systems and let windows 'automanage' virtual memory for you. Ofp is an old technology now, it doesn't freak the OS out with high performance tweaks on DirectX9 and beyond, the system itself will take care of the Virtual memory details quite happily.
Agreed, I mentioned this on the 15th of November of this thread. Just make sure you have HDD space since that is what the virtual memory will draw on....
Click on the 'START' button
Select Control Panel
Select Administrative Tools
Double click on computer management
Right click on computer management (local)
Select Properties
Click the Advanced tab
Click on settings under 'Performance'
Click 'Change' under virtual memory
If you decrease the amounts allotted, you will have to reboot...
You have 3 options: Custom, System managed, and no paging file.
I believe system managed size is controlled by the computer. You may want to start with this one.
Currently, I am running the Custom size: Initial - 1536, Maximum - 3072
When you are complete with the change, select 'Set' and then okay out of the menu. You may have to reboot, you may not have to...
Ok maybe someone could help step me through this as i really don't wanna fuck ...
I'l report back soon
if the only thing you can contribute to the discussion is a few big-boy swear words don't bother reporting back at all. You are already out of your league. Stick to the schoolground.

Now that didn't help at all. If there's a personal grudge (as this sure seems to come out of nowhere) express your feelings with different means, not our boards and at the same time discouraging people from them. Now get back to playing FDF 1.4 already like the rest of us :P
Anyway, it doesn't matter how big a HD is, but the partition the page file uses. As in Polish_GI's instructions, set those values but don't set them on the system drive, C:. Unless that's all you got. It's like a snake eating it's own tail. Also, if you got multiple partitions or even multiple HD's you can make them share the page file. I'm using 1.5*RAM as the value divided into 2 partitions, D: & E:. That's 768 initial and maximum and it runs just fine. VTE is heavy and I notice opening say IE when VTE and for example Photoshop is open, will be a bit slow. So with 1gb ram I'm beginning to feel the weight. The pagefile has to be totally screwed to be the reason though...
I have never met you before and I have no personal grudge with you so I really have no idea where that came from I'm sorry if my language offended you but it's kinda the language of todays "youth" and when I'm angry it slips out more easily, trying to be a moderator when you arn't does not work and telling me I'm out of my league when I have been playing ofp from day one is kinda stupid and btw from my quote you missed out the "up my comp" which was after fuck. That's all I'm saying on that, case closed.
@Polish_GI
Sorry I've taken so long to get back to you, at first I thought ur instructions were incorrect as I looked in properties on the wrong thing. Now I realise that I was looking on the wrong thing and will have to try again. College work is also gettin in the way recently
@MI_Fred
Thanks for the help dude
I don't have to be a moderator to be offended by inappropriate language in what should be a reasonable discussion or help on a technical thread. I also have sufficient runs on the board (pun intended) in this forum to have an opinion. Since this is the way you wish to continue, you don't need me to spoil your fun. You do not need me in here, and I certainly don't need to be here either. I will leave you to enjoy yourselves while I stick to forums that maintain a certain level of 'dress code'. Goodbye.

I tried what you suggested but unfortunatly it did not work. I will soon be upgrading my graphics card and getting another stick of ram. I think it has something to do with the stuff used inside the addons... not the addons themselves... if you get me lol I have another folder which is over a gig which works fine so I'm not really sure. Ill let you know when I get the update, thanks for all your help
I am happy to help, but I am sorry it did not work out! :( Well, if anything, at least you will have more RAM and an upgraded video card, right? Those are always good things to have.....

VTE does use rather high resolution textures, but only 1024x1024 tops. I don't know why those should matter but if they do, would it be the ofp preferences setting thingy making your day miserable?
