PMC Editing Wiki opened!

I'm happy to announce that PMC Editing Wiki has opened!

It is still work in progress but I want to give it some PMC publicity this weekend, there is still much data to be added. I have added all the Falcon 4 tutorials there and much more new stuff, of course all the ArmA and OFP stuff is new to us.

I wont post news about the wiki outside this forum until we get some experience with it, all feedback would be welcome. After we get it rolling nicely, I'll post announcements to other sites and forums so everyone can enjoy its benefits.

I did not create wiki so that others will help me to edit it, however if anyone happens to be interested they can register to the wiki and then I'll grant access to edit the pages. Pages cannot be edited without login/access.

Heh my browser is acting up with cookies as it wont let me logoff so I could check, but there should be login button in the lower right hand corner and most likely when you click that it should bring up login or register menu if you have no account yet.

So just register there and then I can grant you access to edit.

Would be really great if you could bring that Falcon 4 database/skin editing knowledge in there, our database part of the wiki is ancient and just a small bit at the moment.

Yup - I went there - you get a Login Window but there is not Register button or link to go to another page for Registration . . .

ranger822 is now setup officially as first person to help me edit the wiki. I'm very proud that he has wanted to help me, hes knowledge of database/skin editing will be great addition to the wiki I'm sure.

If anyone else wants to have access to edit the wiki, I'd be glad to add you in. Remember, PMC Editing Wiki will be the one stop shop for ArmA (ArmA 2 next year), Falcon 4 and OFP editing.

Good thing about the wiki is that its natural us to type... if you do artwork like skins or database etc its "hard" work and you have to really think not just "act", eh well anyway thats how I see it. Posting a forum message even several paragraphs long takes not so long, but making a terrain set from ground up will.

So I would really appreciate if you'd share all your knowledge and also point me to the right direction which wiki pages need the most urgent update. Also if you or someone finds useful piece of information from the forum posts, please link here and let me know that it should be added to the wiki.

Thanks for doing some edits for the wiki, much appreciated. Also when you do the edits, you can preview them like forum message with the preview button (so you dont have save and edit back again many times), dokuwiki saves the work in progress in intervals so if you lose connection or similar, you can go back and retrieve the last saved data. And last, please use the Edit summary box to describe your edits in short. It will be nicely shown on the Recent Changes list then.

Btw I was planning on finally publishing the wiki's existance to the public, I mean public more than this topic like frugals/freefalcon forums and various forums in ArmA community as well as new sites. Dunno, perhaps before christmas or just few days from now, there are couple of areas I'd want to edit before that though.

in Hawaiian wiki wiki mean fast or swift - - I can't exactly promise to finish my wiki edits by the end of the year - lot of stuff going on - but over time I will try to put everything I have learned about editing Falcon files over the past 5 years in Falcon.

Not sure why someon else didn't come up with some sort of continuity file - so many really knowledgeable people have come and gone and along with them has gone their knowledge without adequate record. Maybe once Falcon is done we will finally know everything

PMC Editing Wiki is here now and forever. In 10 years from now when we play some supadupahyper game on 25ghz machines, we look back the Falcon 1998 and OFP times of editing and have a good laugh about the old times.

It is PMC's goal not to have any piece of information slip through the cracks as we want to have all editing knowledge poured into our wiki for safe keeping.

And for future? What happens when we change software? Servers? Whatever? Well, the dokuwiki is now fully text based, so if we have to change anything along those lines, we can take the existing data very easily with us and put back up on whatever different format or technology.

Trust me on this, for since the year 2000 we have been up... What you put into PMC Editing Wiki... is forever

I have have just completed first step on major push on the wiki, there is tons of stuff that just got added there and I'd say the best is yet to come.

Maybe some of you noticed, but now I started to advertise our site, we have banner/links in the armedassault.info, armaholic and ofpec at the moment, hopefully this brings more people to enjoy our wiki. I'd hate to have all that good knowledge sit there without anyone putting it for good use.

I said above that best is yet to come... it means that I have couple of really good pages coming up there (at least I think so) which are something we havent really seen before and which can help community a major way. I am very excited about these and have spent quite some time creating them in the recent weeks.

Again if you have any suggestions what is really needed in the wiki, let me know.
