Thats like google earth, if so then yes I think it could be used as reference.

Looks better then GoogleEarth. They used Shuttle Radar Topography. You can pan the view to birds-eye. Zoom in and so that you can almost walk around it. Also possibility to install a compass and view the coordinates at all times. And it's a free download!!
