village1.csv VS airbases.csv. The difference?

Post by Joe Labrada »

Firstly: excuse me my English. This is very bad.
-------------------------------------
The manual "Village Util - Automatic Objectives Placer" say
what:

"The Village Util CSV generator will read the dem2terrain created .TDF (terrain feature) files and write .csv output of the objectives which you can then import into the tacedit.... ....You should get village1.csv file into your dir when everything went succesfully....."

Ok! The manual is very good. I can create this file .csv and I not have difficulty.

------------------------------------------
The manual "Cate v4.15-Readme" say:

"Let’s look now how to use CSV files for airbases. Here’s an example of how such a file should look ... ...Here’s an example of a conf file for airbases :

ABFileName=d:\Cate\Airbases-csv\airbases.csv

[AirbasesDef]
AirbaseDef=1 0 -1 1 1 (01_19,02_20,05_23,20_02,32_14,34_16,36_18)
.................."

----------------------------------
QUESTION:

There are the file village1.csv to Tacedit and the file airbases.csv to Cate. These files are the same file? What are the differences? And to the creation of these two files i need village outil? This is ok?
If my words are not true, how can I to create the file airbases.csv?

The village util is not used anymore for the creation of the village1.csv to import into Tacedit?

Thanks

NOTE: thank you Snake Man. DEM2L is not the same that dem2terrain. A "lapsus calami".. ;)

First, you don't need to use village util anymore as the latest dem2terrain creates factories also.

TCL scripts creates rest of the PAK stuff, there was example script included in the Tacedit v2.35 release.

village1.csv and airbase.csv are both CSV files, same stuff just different name. The CATE tutorial just means that airbase.csv contains only airbase objective export from tacedit.

So load up tacedit, choose to view only airbases and drag a box around all of them and select export viewed. save the file to whatever name and whatever dir you have pointed in CATE airbase conf file and you're done.

Perfect! , however I don't understand how I can open the "country-airport.tdf" file (were are placed the location of the airbases) into Tacedit to then export whith... box and "export viewed"...

The tutorial of CAte say:

"To see where this objective (airbase) is located we first export the airbases only out of tacedit, that exported CSV file is read by CATE where it gets the coordinates"

Before to export I need to import? That is true?

How I can enter the data .tdf into Tacedit?

The file that we open with tacedit is save.cam (cleaned)?

Excuse me my English :)

Read the Ultimate Theater Tutorial Part 4 little more careful, its explained there.

Yes have to admit with few words, but all the steps to create full campaign objectives are listed.

But not to sound "RTFM" guy like I want to be, here is the short version:

1) dem2terrain creates airport and label TDF files.
2) village util turns them into csv file.
3) tacedit imports this csv file.
4) tacedit exports airbases only if selected so.
5) CATE reads this exported csv file.

I think its also possible to feed the village util created village1.csv into CATE directly, but never did try that... let me know what it says it might caugh on the city/village objectives...

dem2terrain creates the objectives import CSV file for you.

Tacedit imports that file and then you have all objectives for your theater (including airbases)

Tacedit also exports ONLY airbases if you choose so.

CATE reads this CSV file which is exported from Tacedit. I'm not sure, it might even read the default dem2terrain created csv (all objectives) but I'm sure you want to edit the airbases yourself and not use the default 01_19 types everywhere.

Oops!

I think the csv creation is only on v1.8 which (of course) is not on the downloads page

I'll talk with Codec about this to get the "correct" version online.

Sorry, dem2terrain download will be fixed soon.

Quick question about this...

I redone a Panama/Colombia objectives file last night, it worked great but - a few Airbases are missing, most noticably Howard AFB in Panama. Any ideas why this might happen?

ADDENDUM - Sorry, this was made using Snake Man's DOS program.

Codec:

I think there may be a problem with v1.8 regarding the .TDF files generated. I tried 1.8 today, and the road/river/coast .TDF files were not being opened by TerrainView. Trying the same with 1.7 I had no problems at all.

May have been a one-off, but maybe worth your while checking it out before you expand DEM2TERRAIN to autotile the whole terrain perfectly... please... :)

Did I really ask for that feature...? :D
