hi guys
Being playing the vietnam theatre and i realised that there are no F-5 squadrons and OV-10 ones. I am sure they were in the War too. Do they come in later on in the Campaign? :p
Is there any interdiction or CAS missions for F-4s? All i am getting is Strike strike and strikes and most of them are against one bridge.
I do not know if the USAF operated F-5's in SEA, but they did equip the VNAF with a squadron of F-5A's in 1967 ( the 522nd FS )and I have seen pictures of F-5E's being uncrated and assembled in Bien Hoa in 1972.
Hamm.
"Burning debris will never reverse and open fire on you."
U>S> never had a squadron of F-5s. I don't remember exactly, but we had some we owned and the jocks who flew them were there to train the VNAF. Footnote: VNAF F-5s were not given centerline tanks, afraid they might go North.
Hamm, that burning debris bit is great, glug, glug.
Chance
There was a squadron of F5s based at Bien Hoa, callsign "Falcon". Also another one was based further north at Phang Rang IIRC, but I don't remember their callsign. Each 4 ship flight had at least one American pilot with them. The pilots for these birds were the best in the VNAF and were very aggressive. The most aggressive pilot that I talked to over there was an Aussie Canberra driver, he was low on fuel and ammo, but still was ready to fly a popup ground strike. I remember him telling me that if he ran out of ammo he would drop his empty tanks on the target area. I was a air traffic controller at Paris Control in Saigon and later Peacock Control in Pleiku back when I was young and dumb. :p
F-5 trials in 66 were known as Project Skoshi Tiger and I think you are right about the birds being "borrowed". Attached is a pic I took in arm-dearm, Bien Hoa 1970.
