I see that on the US victories list, there is Gene Basel,an F-105 pilot. He wrote about his experiences in his book Pak Six.
Highly recommended reading.

I'm going to make some VPAF missions based upon some extraordinary incidents of the air war. Some of them I saw in the Squadron Signal book about the VPAF by some Hungarian who interviewed them. Did you know their MiG-17's bombed the US Navy? That their IL-28's cluster-bombed a USAF base in Laos? That their An-2's attacked an American intelligence post in Laos with rockets and machine guns, only to be shot down by a CIA "Air America" Uh-1 chopper while trying to escape? It was surprising reading. I don't remember where it was I read that an F-102(the kind Bush would have flown had his unit gone to Vietnam)was shot down by a MiG-21. Hmm. . . Maybe it's time to form an opposition Red Squad.

There's more.
Shown in the same book are F-5's, A-37's, and Ch-44's in Viet Cong and also in VPAF markings captured from the Saigon government. There was a time in the 1970's when such aircraft stood a likely chance of combat with American aircraft. Interesting hypothetical mission material. Can't wait to get Photoshop.

In fact, they were used against the Chinese in the border conflict and also in Cambodia. It is not out of the question that they clashed with the Thai air force as well.
