tiling...

Post by amstel_za »

hey guys, well, gotta a fair bit sorted out with 3d modelling, etc (ie. it all works now :) One more thing, with the terrain tiles (all zillion of them), when you have download a new DEM and converted it, how do you get terrain tiles for it? do you have to make 'em yourself? or can you get a rough overlay of the area you want (from another site) and modify it? I was playing around with the korea map/terrain, but with so many tiles, I don't know where to start?

thanx

I don't know what you are working on, but the answer to the generic question is to copy and mod existing Korea tiles, or make your own. 128x128, 128 dpi. 1"=1km +/-.
1 pixel=26 feet (at HTile elevation)
Use TERRAINVIEW to list palette tiles, and scroll through them. Choose what you want, and you can use LODFIXER to put what you want into action.

The PMC terrain and tiling tutorials are first rate, if you haven't read them, you need to.

Best thing to do is 1, make it known what theater you are developing (cos quite often u'll find someone else is doing the same) and 2, if you are still learning, join an existing team (like ODS *HINT HINT HINT* :)
