How to use Perl Scripts

Post by Saul »

Hi everyone, I am trying to make a ECUADOR-PERU Conflicts Theather. So far, I have followed the tutorial step by step. I have problems with .map file generation. Could you explain me about the .pal file generation? Also, I have problems with Perl Scripts, dunno how to use them. Please help me. what should I do? I tried to run them in the command line unsuccesfully. Do I have to download dlls or other programs?
Ecuador and Peru had a not declared war in 1995 with a good air-air & air-ground activity. Please, help me to launch the theater, it will be worthy.

first download download and install perl http://www.activestate.com/Products/Dow ... ePerl&_x=1

in the *.pl files there is usually a syntax described.
mind that before a line you always use 'perl'
example

perl mkpal.pl far.pal >fartiles.pal

far.pal being the Jasc pal file

what exact problems do you have regarding the theater.map file?
when you use a standar theatersize
you may as well use the Korean theater.map from the orig CD for now.

Thanks Widowmaker, I will download Perl right away.

I used a 64x64 theater, not a standard 128x128. I copied and edited the original theater.map file, but I am not sure whether it will work or not. I do not understand very well the procedure to produce a .pal archive in order to generate the .map file, the texture tutorial is a bit complex for me in this moment. I will be happy if I am able to use the standardkorean tiles/textures now. Afterwards, I will try to learn to difficult task such as new textures.

Thanks!!

Hi Saul,

i heard Ecuador F-5s are equipped with Derby AAM and Pytheon IV, can you post some real shots? Old a/c with those missiles are pretty dangerous to neiboring AFs, aren't they?

Hi CCC,

The Ecuadorian Air Force does not have F5s in their squadrons. We have Mirage F1E, SEPECAT Jaguars and IAI KFirs C7. As far as I know, the C7s were upgraded to KFIR CE with new radars and are capable of firing Python 4. Likewise, the F1E were upgraded to F1N in order to match the peruvians MIG29s though the international press say their are bielorrusian junk. CCC, do you know if the Jaguar model is going to be completed? It will be fine to fly Jaguars over the Amazonic jungle.

Damn, people are still using the C-7 :).
good plane, and an excelent missile, so good that the russain made a copy in the name of PL-8. not as good as the python 4, who's much, much better than the sidewinder for sure, but still a good one.

CCC, i have a question :). lets say that some one in the future will ask you to make, emmm... lets say - 30 more models or so, is it possible in short time? :)

it depends on model quality. i don't like hi-quality/super-detailed ones, and i have much less interst in making skins and texturing them. :D

i think.. you mean Israeli theater-related stuff? :D if yes, you should got most of them right now, most of them are in SP3 database, while few done in 3ds format, waiting conversion-- like Kfir, Merkava, etc.

and most of all, you still have to push database guru to add/activiate them ASAP.
