Tiling Volunteers

Post by Washout »

Hi All

In a quiet moment I was just thinking that some of the theatres here could do with some man-power on the tiling front.

Although I am too busy with other stuff to coordinate a tiling effort like the Balkans again there are still 265 members on the f4terrain egroup and some maybe willing to help.

What I am proposing is if the tiling co-ordinators can mail me with the title of their theatre and a contact email address I will put a regular request for volunteers out on the f4terrain egroup. Tilers can then get in contact with you for assignments.

My address: chriscarter[at]cmcarter.demon.co.uk

Good idea in the sense of F4Terrain Group name might get more people involved. It would be a nice test of who catches the most tiling "fish" by requesting help :)

What I'm saying is when I ask for tiling help, I mostly speak to empty walls here. Dont get me wrong, some very nice people have helped me, but if we think how many Falcon hobbyist are lurking around on these forums/scene, its amazingly low number who is willing to contribute even so easy task as tiling. Lets see what happens.

Email coming your way ;)

Hi Snake Man,

I'll help do some tiling. I wish I had come here in time to help do Vietnam. But no matter. I'll be glad to help with whatever the current need is. I read the tiling tutorial. Doesn't look to hard. Just e-mail me at linuxrh@home.com

I look forward to giving a hand, :)

Due to the sheer amount of work involved, and the fact others are busy with other projects, I had to put Panama on hold.

As you'll appreciate, it's got a lot of water, but still a helluva lot of terrain to tile.

I hope to revisit the project (still got everything intact) but ultimately its far too much work for what was almost a one-man effort.

In the meantime, I am assisting in the F4ME tiling effort. I hope when this is complete maybe some of the F4ME group will offer to help in Panama.

I still believe its an excellent candidate for a theater, as it offers something no other theater does... just can't think what it was right now...! :)

Send those willing to help with the Iran and ODS 128 theaters to falconpilot34@yahoo.com or nospam

We need the manpower... definately.

I found a very good new approach to luring people into tiling:

"Do it! Its a really easy task. I just made my first six tiles for the ME theatre. It's like playing Sim City in the days of old, and you can get a quick glimpse of what the results will look like!

Highly recommended. "

Top says it all... allude to Sim City... then they have a clear idea of what to expect!

:D

That was me. But seriously, its a curiously fun experience, and i was trying to figure out why.

And then I realised...this is JUST like Sim City. All is missing is the goofy music.

I reckon all who currently read these boards and have an interest in Terrain, should step up and do some tiling for us, at least until we get the terrain ready for a SuperPAK Beta... Even if you are already on a different terrain team (a terrain NOT slated for SP), maybe your teams would consider putting on Hold your projects Till we get the MAIN theaters done?

I know WidMak has effectively put Iceland on Hold and I put my Scandanavian Winter theater on hold just prior to ODS Beta 1, so we can get stuck in and do ODS.. Maybe the rest of you guys would think about do the same??? Even if youre are not doing a theater, and are simply interested, doing some tiling is EASY, and not that boring actually (its kinda fun at times)... Your efforts would be WELL Appreciated...

Please!!!

And if youre deciding which Terrain Team to look into joining, I recommend ODS... :) Cos I have some really cool Historical and Theoretical campaign idea's to mess with once we have a fairly nice looking terrain...

And hey, you'll also be the first to see and fly the new terrain and campaigns.. :)

OBTW, Im also looking for references for what terrain within the ODS terrain looks like, so anyone who has any good pics, or wants to help me research, feel free to also contact us....

Sod this flight sim crap. I want to build mountains and cities and having a voice say "reticulating splines" and the cheesy sirens and the...

sorry.

Oi, Death, looking forward to an Israel theatre for SP2. Trying to ensure SP2 includes a seperate F-16CI database entry. Be nice to replace IAF in my heart. Also, when the thing is released, I will apply any campaign building skills I am accumulating and use them to remake my old Fighters Anthology IAF campaign "Zanek" for F4. Well...maybe.

Do you work? Do you go out? Do you have daughter to look after?

I'm curious... where the hell do you find the time to do Israel alone?

I devoted any and all spare time I got to Panama, but it still wasn't enough. Help in a project is nothing to be ashamed of, especially if the end result is worth it, as F4ME will be...

BTW, I offered you help some time ago, but you didn't take it. Why?

hehehe i got two jobs (will get another one by tomorrow so i hope). i'm a reporter at israel biggest games site, was working as a mods developer at israel biggest import company (my israeli Fly 2 project).
also i got friends and life, and getting my self ready for my draftting in 8 months, and school ofcurse.
still 17 so family isn't an option at the moment :) .
it will worth it, after 18 months i'm not going to give it away.

about your question of help:
actually i used to acce[t help in the past, mostly israelis.
came to realize that most people don't have the power to work on such a project (can't blame them), so i came to realize that my self is the best chance of finnishing something. can't offer help now, did too long way for that.
nothing personal
:p .
and besides people are still helping me with the tech stuff. Snake and Baldeagle used to in the past, even julian from time to time.

Or join the F4ME project, the oldest terrain project that started it all is now picking up speed like never before...

PS: ODS will benefit from the F4ME's QAP(Quality Assurance Program) team, as it will make ODS tiling a million times better than beta 1... wait for the big ass tutorial that I am making... time to go all out :)

Death...I'd really love to see you aboard the F4ME 128 project. I like your Israel map a lot, and the concept of flying things like the Osirak strike from Israel to Baghdad and back...is just too good to pass up :-)

Hmmm.

I think a spirit of compromise with a view to creating more stuff to blow up is in order here.

Look at it this way.

T-Bone has got his Iran theatre, and it shall, yea verily, rock.

Snake man has his ODS theatre, and it rocks already.

And you, good sir, will have your Israel theatre, and we shall love it.

Not a bad start. NOW. Israel - in the 128 theatre. Question, do we have to use the exact same tile set to create the Israel bit of the map? Can't a subordinate tileset be created, using Death's concepts? Cos Israel is more of a meditereanean vibe of a place, rather than hardcore moody desert plains and arid mountains. This means you may have a more natural progression of terrain from the Med coast inland to the "transjordanian" desert to the fertile plains of the Iraqi heartland to the dry, cold, arid landscape of the Iranian hills. And we can use the trees, too. You guys would need to co-ordinate some, but, hell, think of the results.

We'd have one of the coolest, moodiest, scariest and the most flexible cauldron of war activity for campaign builders and TE makers to fiddle with. (And if someone could make Cyrpus look nice, with the RAF bases, and airfields, we can have the Greece/Turkey tiff that some have been hoping for).

Think about it.

Hmm... seeing that I create most of the desert textures, I think I can offer some insight on tile making for other artists?

Hi Snakeman and TBone

Second nagging went on the f4terrain board today ;)

I'll keep at it till they submit (resistance is futile ;)).

Anyone else want me to include their theatre on the now weekly nagging for tilers let me know.
