Korea Co-ordinates and Map

Post by Zaggy »

As most of you will know, i dont currently have an F4 install. Im still devoid of a machine on which to play. BUT what i am after is 1. The xxNxxxE co-ords of the four corners of the theater and 2. a copy of the terrain mesh files for the theater (not the tile or anything, just the actual mesh).

I just have some idea's i want to play with in regards to getting SRTM terrain data into F4...

and another thing, what is the TRUE res of the Korea theater? The data its based on, is at a res of 30ArcSec, which is actually 927m (1/2Nm) NOT 1Km. 1Km is simply the common abbreviation.

So does DEM2L take this into account, by projecting the data, then sampling the Mesh at intervals of 1Km to generate the L-mesh? Do we scale the mesh up and throw out the Long's and Lat's a little bit? Or do we just live with the fact that in F4, 927m is 1Km?

Im not bagging anyone or bitching. Just curious, as its VERY relevant to the mathematics of something I want to explore, in regards to F4.

Don't know your project details, but just wanted to say that stuff in that direction is going on - I recently constructed a SRTM-based 250m DEM for the default Korea Theatre; the data is now with Baldeagle (who has some theatre tool experience :), and together we will try to bring that stuff into something usable :)

Tom... GREAT stuff... Ive been speaking to a person within BMS in regards to separating the Terrain Textures from the Terrain Mesh, so we can use the SAME (ie CURRENT 1Km x 1Km texture size) texture matrix over a more detailed mesh.

This BMS person was taking it to the rest of the team and probably going to look into the feasibility.

But who knows if it will be 1. possible, 2. allowed and 3. able to be completed by any deadline imposed, or other circumstance beyond BMS's control!
