Yes you can place airbases to any location on the map.

Our lame Tacedit tutorial explains simple airbase object placement, its poor tutorial but thats the first draft :)

Is there possibility to add new skins for airbase and other ground objects like buildings?

I know it can be done for ground troops, but newly skinned airbases would be cool.

well there are runway skins
so these we should be able to change
if all 3d ojects of a airbase objective have skinnes I dunno
however if really wanted those objects can be remapped
or can be altered to make use of I higher resolution bmp

Hi

You can re skin any object in Falcon 4 using Fred Balding's wonderful LODEditor tool. I'm not sure what the latest version is but I'm sure ccc will jump in here and give you more details.

I also had an idea about removing the hanger doors from the hanger models, texturing the internal walls ad removing collision detetction so thet you can park your aircraft in there.

well, the truth is, I've asked Dragon airbase thing a while ago. we got to figure out the composition of those airbase files, seems a collection of lod and so on. got to figure out their relation, then we can build new ones.

Being able to re-skin airbases would be cool, esp. for ODS... Creating new airbases, well, that would be just too cool!!! Maybe when you guys figure out how they go together, you could make an EASY TO USE tool, to make the airbases???

Hi

As far as I know then you can reskin any of the objects on an airbase with little or no effect using LODEditor. You can also change the actual model certainly of the buildings as they are just features in the same way as the trees I am working on.

You will need to learn how to append new models to the LOD file if you want to do any serious work, for example, making the hanger models larger (in kb size rather than physical) than the original can lead to LOD file problems. That said it really is quite easy once you learn your way around LODEditor.

The only thing I haven't played with is moving the varous models which make up runways etc around as there is something which tells the AI where to taxi etc and I don't want to screw this up.

If you're interested in doing this I would apply to the F4LE egroup and apply for a bunch of texture no. reservations from Jerry Davis. Also the guys there will help you get started.

Hope this helps you on your way.

New airbase skins at least would be very nice start.

So who wants to help on this area?

Great we have Hunter to ride on this :D

Most of the desert runways and taxiways seem to 'blend' with the desert much more... Theyre normally a much lighter, sandy colour, at least for the taxiwaxys, and most pics ive seen of Saudi bases, seem to have most of the taxiways made of square sections. Would just be a nice extra.

As for who wants to help SM, well, I guess Id better put my hand up, considering i was the one who mentioned it to you... :)

But id really like to eventually mess with creating new sections of airbases, for both of our theaters... Create some realistic HAS complexes and revetments and stuff... :) And im my case, some HAS's and stuff hidden in tree's and under snow... make those anti airfield operations actually realistic... )

Zaggy, glad you join the team of "save Private SM " :p

btw, if you can give me the exact dimension info and good line drawings of those HAS, we can make it (with ease).

pliz check the default LOD libarary first, i note there's one similar to the real thing.

why the hell to use lOD i remember that few months ago while i was still using Skineditor2.0.
i remeber tons of buildings and runway skins along with those of the planes units and other kind of stuff.

so why the hell to get mess with the vortex in the LOD editor insted of opening your WINpainter and get mess with him.

or maybe i'm wrong and you guys are talking about something else.

ccc... I dont have 'exact' measurements for these things, but as for the two or three variation of the Saudi 'semi-underground' hangars, shouldnt be too hard for me to come up with some drawing and approx measurments... Work on the ODS stuff first, cos well, my theater, I havent touched it for 2 weeks or so... been doing stuff for ODS, and having fun with it...

ccc... Do we know how to make 'taxiways' and stuff?? So in theory, we can start a/c near these hangars, and taxi out thru a bit of a concreate maze....

I get some drawings sometime this week....
