First I use PSP5
ok in the texture.bin there are tilegroups
all those tiles in one group need to have the same pallete as the first in the group
While making a set offtiles in 16 milion colors
you convert them to 256 colors
the paletta will be differnt
-so you can make a set
take the first one out of the set (256 colors)
and export palette
then load this *.pal file back into the other tiles of that particular set
use: (nearest color matching)
-fartiles.pal is made like this
take a tile from every set
put it into an 16 milion color new image
(1024)(8*8 tiles)(room for 64 sets)
this is the one I used for Israel and ME
and then decolorize it to 256 colors
save the palette to crearte a *.pal file
and use mkpal.pl to make the Falcon pal file
save the image to use as the xfatile.pcx
if you use runtiles1.1 to create the M L T tiles
(I don't use every set only the ones with very difefent palleta, actually using every set screwes things up)
maybey can post a pic of your problem

Re: To Crossup pallete and all
Thanks for the reply but the problem is not in not knowing how to make the .pal but in figuring out issues cause by color choice. In my case I get, at intermediate distances, flourescent colors. Near and far are fine. This is with a modified tile set of course.
I think that beyond 252-255 color being reserved for lighting, others are also perhaps "reserved" for land use for example.
Any info on that?

Well Crossup check this out.....
When you fligh at night do you see those spots on medium range lighted up????
i guess so
this would mean that M and L tiles are created wrongly (runtiles1.1 does this incorrect, as i noticed some time ago)
and some pixels are getting changed to lightening value. 9this is what happened to me.
I'll check it out for ya
and i remeber a post one f4terrain or ME egroup
dealing on anotherway to create the m and l tile
Snake Man I beleived it was directed tou you

The best way to resize tiles is to use a corel photopaint script which resizes in bilinear resampling (save the new graphics into another directory) and then recolor the tiles using PSP.quote:Originally posted by Widowmaker:

Unfortunately PSP hasn't a scripting ability, and Corel just places a new palette onto the graphics, and doesn't resample it, which PSP does (at least I haven't got Corel to do it..).
So the recoloring has to be done by hand

Be sure if you have a set for which you don't want any night lighting at all to set color slot 252-255 to colors never seen in nature, like light purple or green...
Tile sets that need some night lighting, exspecially cities, are another problem. To get it right you will have to redo each texture by hand. So if a H* tile has a night lighting pixel at position 64/64, it must be placed at 32/32 for M, 16/16 for L and 8/8 for T tile size.
As recoloring won't do that itself, it has to be done by hand.
