One question guys...
Does this utility actually turn F4's flat realm into a spherical surface? If not, what does it do?
Cheers!

Re: Spherical Converter
Well... I'm not the right person to answer this, but i guess it 'distorts' the map, so depending on the longitude you get a slightly 'rotated' map, and it creates the effect of a small part of a spherical globe.
(At least in the map, please someone correct
me if i'm wrong)

Re: Spherical Converter
well the eath is round
a 10 by 10 degree map is about square at the equator yet will slowly get more trapeziod as one closes too the pole (note we are measuring in long/lat degrees
the perl scripts from julian converst the map as a square wich is quite true on and around the equato yet it looses accuracy as one closes in towards the poles
Mirams program makes a map on excact distances and is the realistic way of making maps.. the distance from point a to b will stay realistic
for instance Balkan map is made by the perl scripts and is non spherical wich means that it is not excacty the right size...still not too much off
Iceland is made withe the new sperical conversion now it ocupies about 1 third of the map
with the perlscripts it wouldn't even fit on the map.....Iceland lies way up north

Re: Spherical Converter
Thanks for the responses here guys. S in essence the convertor is a toll for creating a map with authentic distances. It will not therefore create any effect of curvature in the sim itslef, if one say were in a position to see it by expanding the visibility or taking a place far from the equator. (Iceland with 60NM visibility for example )...
Thanks in advance,
Angel

Re: Spherical Converter
Nope it will not create horizon curvature
the Falcon4 engine does not model this
Falcon is a flat world...like in the Middle ages. With endles visibility you would be able to look over the horizon
(We should inform erazor about this
)
yet it will make mountains steeper (not higher) as the map is less stretched so in this way it reflects on your horizon..
BTW wich map are you planning to make????
