Be careful with the lines.... Use KG's tiletest to check for unwanted patterns when you tile it several times.

Actually striker , yes . indeed i have had some unwanted patterns , it is very hard to work with those things on the tiles , but just it is harder , it makes look a lot more realistic .

Is there anything else you think i'm missing? ,

Apart from the fractal pattern risk mentioned above, you should also prepare any generic tile for variation tile usage. Think how you can add other features within the same tile without making unwanted patterns. Keep the edges, but make new features within the tile. Do not overdo this. I suggest 10 different variations of the generic as variation tiles. For desert you can add some lighter sandpits, some boulders and a house ruin etc. You know the features for the area you make better than I. Good luck !

Actually the guy who send me the "tiles" or i should say , the satellite pics , well he send them in B/W , so i had to convert them to RGB and place about two layers of the color you see above ,

BTW , your advise is very very good , actually i never thougth about it , i could actually work on one and make some tiles put of just one , i have about 150 diferent tiles wich i haven't figure how to place them so that they will have a perfect end , wich is what i want

After this , i will start to work on forest tiles, wich i guess will take about two or three difernte textures ,, but htat is another thing wich i start to work later on ..

Striker, sorry to bother again ,, i finally understand what you were saying , ok , now , if i can somehow make all the tiles have the same end (wich that's what you were saying) well . i can place as many tiles as i can but using one single tile , i know how to do this , yet , i would like to hear your opinion on how to .. hummm , you know , make them have the same end , but without having to sacrifice textures .. a little confusing there , but hope you understand

Ok we make one tile wich is supposed to be the MOAT (Mother Of All Tiles)(like desert). So if we put it in the middle. When you replicate it eight times arounds the middle one, NOTHING should look strange. Then we got a good start. This work is what takes time , and needs to be absolutely perfect.

Tiling a large desert with stuff like this would look very boring. So from here we start working. First we make variation tiles. Each variation tile contains things that is not common in the generic tile or in the other variation tile. In the tiles you have shown us, you have many things that could be used in the variation tiles.

You can divide the variation tiles into different tiles too. A stand-alone variation tile, and a set of variation tiles, that belong together in a given pattern. Typical stuff can be a deviation in color of the sand, that can indicate either a ridge or a trench.

btw, lets call the tiles surrounding the center tile 1 to 8... clockwise. 1 being in upper right corner of the 9 tiles tiled together.

So to the transition tiles. Transition tiles can be made be made with 50/50 of each terrain type, but I prefer that it is done 80/20. You'll see this better if you have large variations in height in the theater. If you pair the transitions of the tiles nr 1,3,5,7, and put a height in the centre of the 4, or even a deception in the terrain in the centre, you add a visual transition of a sandpit or a sandy hill. So height have to be taken into account when using the tiles.

When you automate transitions and tiling, like in ODS, all these small visual beauties that create variations aren't there. (Here I get nostalgic and start looking at old f4ME tiling......)

Yes , i finally got to get a set of tiles , in good shape and no texture problems , i follow the indications os striker , and hell, is a lot easier than i thought , thanks a lot dude!!

I actually don't have as much time as i had before , so progress is a lot slower than it used to be , BTW , remember i sadi i was going to use the old sea tiles ,, well , check this one out ,

Striker , you know you have become a real asset for me to answer quetions , i really hope i don't get on your nerves , .. i'm new in theater biulding , yet , it is about the only way i can thankz all of you who have done all other theaters , so once again , sorry to bother ,

The generic tiles , well ., i create one that goes in the middle , not a whole lots of textures in the middles one , but there is one that actually goes between the desert and the the forest , here's the tile i made , most of them will use about this same textures , i also make sure it will tile eith no texures problems ,



what do you think , i know this isn't much of what you expect of , yet , it is about the only way i found to get those tiles without textures problems , take a look and tell what would you add , , and what about the colours? do you think that i should change the patern?

also , when i finish it , is there a tutorial on how to make it an executable . ?or should i just get a friend of mine to try to make it f4patch? heck , i don't know , at some point this becomes hard , nevertheless FUN!!!

As I said above, you should consider making the transition tile a 80/20 or 20/80 instead of a 50/50. I think you should use 75-80 % of the tile for transition from desert to green. What I am saying for this perticular tile is to draw more desert sandpits to the left into the green. Also when doing the transition, place desert variation tiles with some green in some of the adjacent tiles on the desert side, and some green variation tiles with desert on the green side. The purpose of this is of course to make the transition from desert to green wider in the terrain. With this method you would brake up sharp terrain variation lines. This is why one also should make 8 transitions tiles, to curve the transition away from perpendicular or horisontal lines.
