OK, I looked at your files, Quicksilver.

What size is your terrain ? If it is a standard 64x64 terrain, your TDF files are wrong : in this case, coordinates should range from 0 to 1023, but there are cases where I see 1024, so it is outside of the terrain, hence CATE crashing.

Regards.

A-HA!

Yep, it's a 64x64 theater, so therein must lie the culprit.

Strange though, these files never caused me trouble with TerrainView. :D

That's what I say, yes ;)

But it's strange that you can come up with coordinates ranging from 0 to 1024 instead of 0 to 1023 ... :?

I suppose I could add a check to disregard coordinates outside the correct range, but that's not so easy, in fact.

Hmm wonder what TDF converter did you use?

No need to put additional check for CATE, if we feed data to it, we better be sure the data is correct.

Aah, well, I didn't create the TDF files myself, so I don't really know much about their format.

But anyway, I'll go now and see if I can fix them and make them work.

Were the TDF's created by old perl scripts or the DEM2L2 spherical converter?

huh

I would bet perl scripts - these files are more than 2 years old. I'm sure there's no spherical conversion data in them, the guy who made these for me told me so a few days ago.

Anyway. I've deleted all lines containing "1024" data from them, and the files now work perfectly. I'm getting good results with CATE, I'll be happy to provide you with shots & config files soon (if you're interested...)

Maybe you should have replaced 1024 by 1023, when possible, in order to not loose roads or rivers.

Just an idea ... ;)

As said in "CATE needs your help" thread, I'm experimenting some ways of enhancing rivers and roads, with no luck up to now.

Nothing more I'm afraid.

CATE v4.14 has been released!

You'll find the 96kb CATE package and 4.5mb document package in the download page.

This is basically the last CATE version, maybe Skyfire could give some more details.

I want to thank Skyfire for coding this baby. I'll just leave it that, no words can describe my feelings of how much pain and agony CATE has saved. It is truely amazing util.

Thanks for the kind words, Snake Man :)

Not many things new in this version (if I'm not mistaken, the previous available for download was 4.05), so here you go :

- CATE has the ability to modify theaters using tiles/information from Fly. I don't know much more about this, see Crossup for more information

- You can force CATE to NOT search for duplicate regions/segment when saving theaters (so this is a time-saving option when doing multiple passes : just do the search on the last pass)

- I added, then removed (because it was not working as intended, and because all code was not from me) A* pathfinding algorithm when trying to tile roads/rivers.

As Snake Man said, this is more than likely my last release : I sent SnakeMan the source code, so that someone can keep on enhancing CATE if need be.

Happy flying everybody ;)

Regards.

Well Skyfire, nothing else to say except THANK YOU SO MUCH, for creating this great utility.

Kudos of course also go to everybody else that helped with CATE, like SnakeMan and T-Rex (hey, he named it, right?! :p )

Now, don't you think it's about time you announced this to the rest of the Falcon community? I don't think anybody else apart from the visitors of this forum know about CATE... call me silly but I think a proper announcement at all the big-time sites would send a shockwave throught the entire community.

Anyway, that's all I wanted to say...

Thanks QuickSilver :)

Hmm, I already did some announcement at Frugal's some time ago, but I can't say I got a lot of feedback ;)

(search for a thread called "F4 Theaters and shameless advertizing" or something like that if you want to have a look).

Skifire
you're absolutely right. However, pls consider that, making such announcements in other fora, you make this rather specialised forum much more visible to others. If it wasn't for a post somewhere else directing me here, I would have not known this fine place. Advertisement is core to business.

diomedea out.

Ya know, Diomedea is right. And timing counts for alot, too. I think soon after Balkans is released (3-4 weeks, right Schumi?) :D :D people might see the potential for new theaters. I think the ODS beta has sparked some interest, but don't know how many betatesters have signed on.

Plus, IIRC, that "shameless advertising" thread was before the tutorial was up. A link to the tutorial might be a better way to "advertise" since it has links to all the tools. Also, in the readmes for any new theaters, people should probably include a link to the tutorial.
