started my first Arma2 mod

Post by qawa67 » 2009-11-23 22:34:46

I've started modified some weapon sounds, but I cant hear those ingame !!!

this is an image of the sounds I've modified...

Image

this the RTP file
http://www.filesend.net/download.php?f= ... 8d00e22a0a

premised that I've manteined the original bitrate and frequency (not the Kilobytes)... I've tried in those way:

I've create PBO in all these ways.... a PBO with the same folder structure as default.... all the singles sounds into a PBO.... each sounds folder into own PBO's ...
I've putted all these PBO's (1 tested at times.. not all in once :D) into a folder called @qawa (into Arma2 root), then inside a folder called "Addons" .... but they dont work !!!
I've tried to put my sounds into the original Arma2 sounds.PBO... ARMA2 porked !!! (no sound available and some errors at startup)
I've tried to create a config.cpp... but there are too much script command to learning for me !!! ... never used this way to mod :(
I've tried to use the BITools "virtual driver" and place all the Wss sounds into the CA folder... nothing !!!

I'm tired... it's very hard for me... :(

can you give me some help to create my first addon ?

Welcome to ArmA 2 editing :)
I've putted all these PBO's (1 tested at times.. not all in once :D) into a folder called @qawa (into Arma2 root), then inside a folder called "Addons" .... but they dont work
Did you write config.cpp for them?

Thanks for posting this, I have just updated our beginners tutorial with this in mind.

PMC Editing Wiki: ArmA 2 beginners editing guide. Hope that helps.
I've tried to create a config.cpp... but there are too much script command to learning for me !!! ... never used this way to mod
Indeed there is many lines to edit and since there is no specific weapon SOUND config file (just big weapon config alone), its very scary to read through.

However you must create config.cpp for the new sounds, to include the new south path file names.

I guess I could try to do small sound replacement config tutorial for you, this way you would learn how to do it and our wiki would got one more tutorial.
I've tried to use the BITools "virtual driver" and place all the Wss sounds into the CA folder... nothing !!!
Yes ArmA 2 will not read the P:\ BIS Tools drive at all, its only used when editing.

it would be great SnakeMan !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

believe me.... I've tried to look at some gonfig.cpp from others mods (like vopsound) but without knowledge, it's impossible for me build a new one from zero... The most difficult is the lacks of information about which are the "name. wss" used ingame, and which "name.weapon" the sounds are linked... btw, I'll wait your post... I'll have something to working on !!!! ;)

THANKS !!!!!!!!! :)

w00t!

qawa in the HOUSE!!! :D

Nice to see you around, mate!

(SnakeMan - this could easily lead to more traffic here.) ;)

Hey - I've been doing some configs for others recently, and would LOVE to help get you going qawa!

First - you should probably register a "tag" at OFPEC:
http://www.ofpec.com/tags/

I checked and "qawa" is available - and just about any variants of it:
http://www.ofpec.com/tags/index.php?act ... t&letter=q

You have my email still? Send me a couple files, and I can do a test config for you.

:)

(Oh, and... uh... you still do 3d modeling?) ;)

I've ended now my first addon... it's my first work, but I'm happy to have understood how to tell "arma2" to read my files !!!!
I'm trying tomorrow, but I think to be near the light of the tunnel ;)

3d ? mmm.... I can found something in my memory

big cheers Trex !!!

ps: I've seen your work around (about civilian traffic... still to try but I'll do soon) ;)

Thanks SnakeMan :)

I finally reach my goal !!!!

not completely.. but I've replaced the crack sounds and some of the weapons I've edited !!!!! :))

I've used some files from others addon for to understand how to configure my addon. But there is something that I need to understand...

example:

1) Do exist a list of all the class used in Arma2 ? (weapons, ammo, misc, ecc...)

2) When I call a SoundDefault1 (as in the example below)....
class GrenadeCore; // External class reference

class GrenadeBase : GrenadeCore {};

class G_30mm_HE : GrenadeBase {
soundDefault1[]
which *.wss I'm calling ?

btw... I could remain in standby for your tutorial. I'm sure I'll find the answer ;)

PS about 3d... send me a PM for which are the work in list;)
I'll compare they with my 3d skill :)

In PMC Editing Wiki you'll find the classes.
2) When I call a SoundDefault1 (as in the example below)....

Well I don't know how it goes, I need to read example ArmA 2 configs and then I'll figure it out.

I'm hoping the sound config editing tutorial would provide you all the answers, it just takes few days (minimum) for me to write it.
PS about 3d... send me a PM for which are the work in list
Well VTE could use new helicopter models and one gun. Then we have many low poly trees and bushes which would need a touch-up or even complete rework.

Are any of those types something you would like to model?

PS I've not experience in Aram2 3d object, but if it's a work just about modeling I can do something ;)

qawa-

I saw someplace that someone had a 3ds plugin for ArmA models. BI uses a proprietary format - they have their own 3d modeling program called O2. O2 isn't very difficult, it just has its own unique way of doing things. :)

From my experience, if you can use 3ds to create and texture-map the model, that is best.

Great news about your sounds. I'd also suggest registering at dev-heaven.net. That's where there are ALOT of resources, including all the configs for everything in the game. I'm sure all the sounds are there, too.

Thanks T for the info... I'll try to do something, but now (I'm sincere) I'm very excited to play Arma with a decent hardware (I've upgraded some days ago my PC) :)

now it's a total (and incredible) "battlefield" experience) !!! 8-)

Hey qawa - I think that link is bad (or at least, it doesn't work for me). :)

Yeah, I know what you mean about enjoying actually playing the game, though. :D There's a mission I made that has really captured my attention that I'm really enjoying.

(And I stay away from flying stuff.) ;)

Here is the thread here:
viewtopic.php?f=54&t=22118

:)

It is kinda complicated, let me know in that thread if you have any questions. :)

For instance, to set up the artillery/UAV/CAS, hit 0 0 then select which one you want to activate (will have to do that for each one). Then, to start one, hit 0 8 and select which one you want.

Today I made no progress on the tutorial, sorry, was just too busy with VTE editing. I see that you already got something done but that doesn't change anything, I set out to do the tutorial and its started, so I will finish it.

The tutorial is complete, I just need to check few loose ends. They are cosmetic at best, but I'm bit anal about them as I wouldn't want to put out tutorial instructing new guys to write configs the bad way :)

But the tutorial as whole works, you can build sound config with it just fine, so I think later today I'll put it up to our wiki.

Actually I was talking with buddies on IRC and we came to the conclusion that its not really beginner tutorial as there are some things that no beginners would understand. For example the P:\ drive and so on. Now I'm thinking about writing a BIS tools install instructions to help.

So I think it need more time before its ready for public viewing :)
