I thought the A10 had no radar! Is it possible to deactivate the radar-mfd functions for the sake of reality?

Hmm...after checking more pic on that walkaround link, and comparing with Phil and LOMAC A10 pits, my 2c here:
1.The layout of 10_12 and 10_12_C is excellent! good balance between FOV, MFD and HUD.
2.The frame of HUD, i think we cannot see both inner sides too much. need tapering.
3.At first glance, the curve and scale of Canopy frame draw my attention. Though i've checked real shots again, it seems the frame should be larger, curve down, outward, and attach to the points behind the panel.
see my test sample here, note the 2 and 10 o'clock views, the frame is more outward.

Since the A10 has no radar, radar functions are not available. That's quite trivial.

I guess - I am not sure - that all other functions are available: 1) Targeting for GBUs and Mavericks, 2)system/storage information 3) nav information (HSI).

Now I am at work and I don't have access to additional information. However, I will check tonight.

Chers, Luke

Whenever you need solid info, go check FAS Image

http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/ac/a-10.htm

be sure to check the source links at the bottom of that page, USAF A10 pilot operational procedure in PDF format! Grab, Print, and Read it now!! Image

BTW, just to remind Aeyes, there are three lines of explosive? on top of canopy, dont miss this.

wait, manual here:

Luke thx, i was thnking of swapping MFD's so targeting would be possible with Mav's etc.

CCC, i picked those up last night Image, but thx anyway. I agree with the suggested graphical stuff and it is adjusted. I wasn't to happy about the HUD frame anyway.

There is still a lot to add i know, all in time, this is just very early betastuff.

Ok, here is the difference:
This is the v1.01:
Image

This is v1.02 with adjusted graphics and MFD:
Image

The v1.02 can only be retrieved via the mirror on my site since i have some access and update problems with Angelfire at the moment.

YES! V1.02 looks much better!
Thanx for correcting #2 and #3 complaints Image

Say, too bad we cant have new avonics support at this moment..if you take a look at that A10 flight manual Image

I'd like to share my old gaming memory in Dyanmix's A10 Tank Killer..the panel is the first photorealistic in sim world, HUD symbology is very simple (easy case for eTeam i think), and flash of low-alt warning lights, pull-up! Image hmm..and nice physic modeling in A10 Cuba!

Ok, Angelfire is up again and so is v1.02 Image

I also found a nice pic of a pit from A-10 Cuba, wich is good for reference, not photorealistic graphics but skillfully done and sharp Image

According to my information the MFD is a CRT for Maverick targeting only.

A Pave Penny is mounted on the A10 fuselage - this means that laser targeting must be done by other AC or ground units.

Looks like the MFD is not even available for navigational purposes. A lot of manual VOR/TACAN navigation.

To have the A10 as realistic as possible, the MFD would have to be restricted for Mav use only, why not!

cheers, Luke

Thx for the info Luke, i can't change that as far as i know, the navigation part can't be separated from the Mav without SC hack.
It makes sense why the Hogpilots have so many paperwork stashed in their pit

Meanwhile, i have made a couple of wings as well:

This upgrade, v1.03u can be retrieved here only at the moment:

I've gotta agree about the photorealism of that shot. But for me the coolest part is the part of the seat and seatbelt. That literally looks to me like a photograph.

Great job!

Wonderful, another day at work, watching the clock until I can go home and download another AWESOME pit...

Great work, man, just slicker n' goose-poop!

Does anyone know how to add these to the manual pit-switch in F4Patch4.0 for use w/ i2?

WOW! Excellent look-down view!

say, the pilot's thighs arent placed on right place? It seems knees are under the panel?

Yeah, i know, i have been wrestling with it as well..
I saw some pics of men inside the A-10 and the whole panel is a bit diagonal, so i wasn't really sure to put them knees a bit under it or like the F-16 infront of it.
It's easily adjusted and in experimental pahse Image

I don't think it would be comfy having those knees under the panel and having to eject. If you'd pull that yellow ejection ring as you've drawn it now, you'll surely leave 2 perfectly good legs behind in that A-10 Image

After rechecking again, i think they are more in front than under, so it will be adjusted in later versions.

Yes Tazz, you are right, only your lower parts of the legs get pulled back in the ACES II after pulling the handle.
Thx for thinking with me guys.

btw, how about changing the color of pilot's G suit? i think most hog drivers dressed a olive-green? suit?

Hey Aeyes-

I installed the A-10 pit over the weekend and I should first say three little words: OUT STAND ING! That cockpit IS photorealistic.

Anway, I had a quirky first-pie-loading-screen hangup that I wasn't able to completely test. But, it seemed like changing the loadouts was part of the problem. I'll try to test more, but I was wondering if you'd encountered this?

Thanks,

T-Rex, no haven't encountered this yet, and have been testing in dogfight and campaign mode. Wich exe are u using? I believe sofar the A-10 pit can be flown with both although it was set up for 1.09 basically.
An upgrade will be uploaded this week with a better HUD view for improved CCIP bombing and some wingmarkings. When time allows some more stuff as well.

I fly 1.09. This was with a saved campaign. I didn't do a good job of troubleshooting, in that I did two things to fix the problem, then it worked, so I'm not sure which of the two really fixed it! Image

But, I'm hoping to do a bit more troubleshooting tonight. I'll let you know if the loadouts really make any difference.

Can't wait for the next views!! Image

Aye Carumba! That looks incredible.

One thing I noticed flying it, though, is that bombing is tough because the CCIP pipper is way below the nose. I end up going up to 7k, then dive bombing! :0

I haven't tried to do the eF "manual" bombing, or DTOS, though.

You know, I thought about starting another thread to ask you a couple questions, but instead I'll do it here! Image

1) There used to be a beginning guide to cockpit editing someplace, and I could swear I had it bookmarked, but it now escapes me. I thought it even had some graphics for illustrations. Do you happen to know where that is?

2) I've long been toying with the idea of making a particular cockpit, and after seeing your A-10, I jumped in (again). Good part is that I found an Fs2k pit to start from. Bad part is that I made it the same size and pallette as the A-10 10_12.gif, started editing with Cockpit Editor, then when I loaded it, the pit graphics were all twisted and angled and jumbled, but the instrument graphics were all ok. Have you seen this? Is the pit salvageable?

If not, no biggie, I've gotten a taste of the pit editing, so when I get a decent pit graphic, I'll have some idea where to start! Image

Thanks for the help,
T

1. Somewhere on Frugalsworld is the cockpiteditor guide by Xis.

2. That sounds like you have used the wrong palette for the gif, because the tmplt.gif's graphic data arrive ok.
I don't know what graphic tools u use, but it is important to first save the Falcon palette somewhere. After that convert the Gif file from indexed to RGB colour so u can use all of the tools. (Indexed is kinda limited)
When converting back to indexed you need to apply the Falcon 4 palette again.
That should work ok afaik
