Problem with shifting east is the lambert projection on the russian data. If you can, do it..... But it sure looks good. How would a 256 map look ???? :D

Hey - no roads in Finland??

Guess you need to download huskytracks.e00, skidotrails.e00 and 4x4withchains.e00

;)

Don't worry - we'll soon be able to process those too!

hi...personally I prefare the old location, where there is piace of Italy, of Spain...
this semms to became an more nordic theatre, and the presence of Yougslavia give more freedom in the campaign...it's more realistic. For Example...is for funny to take off from england and strike the yougoslavia or kosovo, like the b-52 2 years ago.. and the possibility to fly over the Pirenei, in the fence between france and SPain...

sorry for my english guys

Yep, I second that. Otherwise, it's fine!
Let it start at, oh, around 5 or 6 degrees west and you're set. IMHO, of course :-)

Anyway, the more northerly orientation probably allows for a more realistic campaign. In "RL", European countries south of the alps might not have seen that much action after all (compared to central and northern Europe, anyway).
Also, there could be quite some naval battles with that map :-)

Bye, Oliver

I think this looks good, Snake Man. An assault from the east would use the northern flank through southern Sweden to get control of the sea resupply lanes to northern Germany, and to gain control of Denmark and the important airbases there. Guess you'll see two bridgeheads on the eastern coast of Sweden.

The main assault through mainland Europa would follow the the usual pattern.

Without problems with that, you could shift theater a bit more south, but still include the airbases in Jyväskylä and Halli. The bases would be important in the flank operation. They will of course not support the eastern forces.
Thumbs down meens shift it a bit more south.

I'd like to hear more comments on this one.

So far we have two yes counts for Centered on: Lat 55 Long 9 location.

I can create the terrain and features files in about 2 minutes depending how fast I can click CTRL-L to load features. Also Village Util creates the objectives in no time... but it takes some time to create the campaign with PAK maps and decent war activity.

This is the reason I want to finalize the Europe Theater coordinates once and for all.

All comments and suggestions are always welcome, feel free to post - it don't cost you anything :)

Yeah it would be nice to get the ocean from South, however this Centered on Lat 55 is the perfect compromise just sliding between Nordic and Balkan theaters.

We dont get no theater makers wrath on our necks with lat 55 :)

I also prefer the old location, where shows all France territory and a bit of Spain. And also the "Pirineos" are very important! ;)

Well, you _could_ shift it a little bit further south, so that the alps are the southern border of the theater, as they are the northern one for the Balkans theater.
But your second suggestions is more flexible with respect to possbile campaign scenarios IMO.
The very first attempt is out, I'd say. Having so much of france, spain, italy and the Balkans gains us not very much. When playing, these areas would be very much underpopulated, I think.
The very last map just _feels_ more right when it comes to a Red Storm type scenario.

Just my 0.02 EUR,

I think i can live with this one.

I would love to see an EF2000 style campaign map going on at the same time as the Central Germany campaign, but i think this will keep me happy!

That's a "yes" from me. Actually, a tiny bit east -although i am from Ireland, and schleping Mk-84s on Dublin would be entertaining, having a lot of Poland for near future campaign scenarios would be a good thing.

Man i cant believe theater files can be done in minutes.
Once basic layout done, the focus will be tile-making. guess it wont be that fast.

I don't know Sky - those B-61's have a fairly large blast area. I might have to drop one near the edge of the map to see if it will wipe out Tooolooooose. :)

Well, you surely need a really large blast area : something like more than 200 kms radius if I'm not mistaken. :D

So, I think I'm safe (as long as there is no big nuke in F4 :D

Ahh - but what about the high loft delivery. Release angle of 45deg at about 50,000ft, might make it much closer.

Snake_Man, I 'm not sure what I need to do to start on the textures. What tools do I need to download, current tiles, etc.? I have a question that might be stupid, is it possible to take pictures of terrain (I live in the desert) from a distance and then convert the files to 16bit bmp files? This would give the "appearance of photo quality terrains. I could do this for the ODS theater. What do you think? Location looks great for location for Europe.

You can start by reading our texture tutorial, that gives you be basic idea of falcon texture/tile setup.
quote:What tools do I need to download, current tiles,
No tools really, only your own paint program to create new tiles.

Well current tiles hmm, yeah it would be good idea to take a look at them. Umm.
quote:is it possible to take pictures of terrain (I live in the desert) from a distance and then convert the files to 16bit bmp files?
Yeah I think so, or at least use them as reference like was done earlier in the Frugals forum posts.

quote:I could do this for the ODS theater.
Yeah we would need some generic terrain types that are missing.

Why don't you start new topic on the Operation Desert Storm area so we can dig into deeper at the desert.

The latest one looks pretty good to me. It would be nice to get more of France and perhaps Spain on there, but then you are going to lose most of Scandi, so best leave it as it is I think. Good work.
