Snakeman who is working on this map???
Looking into this region with a somewhat larger map, would be a shame to have 2 projects running at once...

I reckon a Central Europe scene would be excellent. And after the recent football result, where England stuffed Germany 5-1, I would be only to happy to help the Germans exact some revenge! :D

Well I'm in first stages of such a thing at the moment...
SE England, Holland, Belgium, Germany, Chzekoslovakia, Hungary, Switserland, Austria, parts of Danmark, Norway and Sweden.

I'll post some things once I actually have something to report... I'll be sure to snag you then to do the tiling of the UK :D

I am, but dont worry its just tutorial theater made less than 24 hours. I used Fred's tools to autotile it etc. Its just example for tutorial purposes, PMC is not developing European Theater.

Thats nice, can you give any details of what have you done so far etc. Also if you need any assistance (other than tiling) let me know.

Currently have all the data, doing the DEM -> L2 conversion at the moment. Had a few issues, thanks much to Warlord, they're solved. I will then do autotile and autoplace bridges. After that I'll need to see what needs to be done.

I have quite a lot of info on airbases in the region, and data on type of squads placed. I'm planning on doing this in the 1990-1995 era, so I'll need to find people to help me with

- Some new aircraft as Tornado / Mirage
- Placing of objects
- Track down placement of squads behind "Iron curtain" just before the collapse of the Berlin wall.
- Making some tiles
- And ofcourse to tile stuff

But I must not get ahead of myself. Until I have the basics done and somewhat working I won't post much updates... actions speak louder than words :D

This is my "overall design doc" so far

-- start --
46-66 degrees north (right above balkans, who use 36-46)
1-21 degrees east (fits with balkans, 11-21)

Countries in this area

01 United Kingdom + P
02 France + P
03 Belgium +
04 Holland +
05 Norway + P
06 Sweden + P
07 Denmark +
08 Germany +
09 Luxembourg +
10 Switzerland +
11 Austria +
12 Italy + P
13 Czechoslovakia + P
14 Hungary + P
15 Poland + P
16 Estonia/USSR + P
17 Yugoslavia + P

(P means partial)

Timeframe around 1990-1995 (perhaps earlier, to allow for greater US troop numbers)

Possible campaigns :

Fictional Fulda Gap scenario; Warshaw Pact invading south parts of West-Germany,
NATO responding from West-Germany, Holland, Belgium, France, Denmark and several
other surrounding nations. US carrier deployed in North Sea also participate.

(This is my favorite, will use Clancy's "Red Storm Rising" as a base for this one)

Scandinavia invasion by Russia; Finland overrun by USSR, Poland, East Germany and
USSR launching attack on Sweden on 2 fronts. NATO observes but will not interfere
until Denmark or Norway is attacked (which will happen later in the war)

NATO invades East Germany after being provoced; Poland, Czechoslovakia and Hungary
strike back with help of USSR forces.

Aircraft needed :
England Jaguar
Tornado
Sweden Draken
Gripen
Viggen
Holland NF-5 (use F-5 model, alter certain parameters)
Belgium
Germany F-104
Tornado
Switserland
France Mirage (various types, III , IV)
Jaguar

-- stop --

OK few things :
First of all I mentioned Estonia, that should have been Lithuania ofcourse :) )

Also, what would happen if I simply left out the features for certain countries? FI, in most Europe conflicts Switzerland stayed neutral. So I don't need those roads/airbases etc since they don't affect gameplay.

Snake Man, how did you get Holland to look right? In the DEM-L2 converter big parts look flooded (most of it is below sealevel, I know :) )
In my tutorial theater the Holland does have major problems, its almost all water. Its easily fixed however.

I suggest that you use at least terrainview river/road/city autotiling for those countries, it does fairly good job on roads but of course messes up roads+rivers together. Try it out and you'll see.

- Placing of objects
Check out our ODS 128 campaign screenshots information, all those objects are automatically laid out by my village util. Its crazy to start manually place them.

Javanree,
If you are ready, Snake Man can open a dedicated section here for you. so does Malcolm's panama.

hmm..Europe theater, my2c here:

Can we have a 128 map? yes. lots tiling and obj placing. but its doable. just need a team.

Can f4 engine run 128 map smoothly with full scale unit deployment? i doubt about that. 64x64 sounds quite reasonable, with all armed forces deployed at their maximal quantities.

where should the map located? fulda gap centered? Swedish/Baltic centered? Nordic? UK/northe sea? hard to decide, you cant have them all in one...especially with full scale units deployed. you must choose a focus.

anyway, some 3d toys are ready for Europe, and more to come in near future.

This map only covers the east side of Europe?
No Portugal and Spain? :(

OK after re-thinking it all, trying out various things in the DEM-L2 converter etc etc, I've come to the conclusion that due to the nature of the region (VERY much VERY small countries) it's impossible to do a 128*128 theater :-(

It looks like it's going to be (56,5 NW 46,15 SE) or (56,6 NW 46,16 SE) Reason for these coordinates: Balkans uses 46,11 NW 36,21 SE) so it would fit quite nice...

This selection does have Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, parts of Poland, Czeckoslovakia, Austria, Switzerland and France in it. That should make for a plausible scenario.

Hunter : somebody is doing a portugal theater... see Terrain HQ for more. And I can't fit those in with the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium.

CCC : this is going to be a team effort, I just want to make sure it's doable before dragging in more ppl to help out. Glad to hear about the "European 3d toys" :-)
