Installation

Post by Dragonlady » 2002-04-08 15:51:00

I have Falcon 4 installed SP2 in the following way: C:\MicroProse\Falcon4
I copied and I installed Falcon 4 SP2 Europe Theater and the installation was ok.
I enter in the game and when I access theaters, it continues appearing only Korea.
I open the explorer enter in C:\Microprose\Falcon4 to verify the pastes that are in the file of Falcon 4 and me confirm that Falcon 4 SP2 Europe Theater was installed, but even so, when I try to play again, I only have option of the theater Korea.
What should I make?

PS: Excuse my terrible English.

Your falcon dir should have file called theater.lst which has at least these lines:

# lsit of all know theaters
terrdata/theaterdefinition/korea.tdf
terrdata\theaterdefinition\europe.tdf

If you are missing the europe.tdf - then it wont show up in the theater menu.

What is your falcon directory path?

Do you have SPTinstall.exe in your falcon directory?

What are the file sizes in terrdata\europe\terrain directory?

What error message in which map area?

I used the European Installer to install the Theater. I added the line in the file you mentioned above. Ther theater now shows up, but when I click ok, I CTD. I have Falcon installed on my F drive with the original linem just with F instead of C. I have SP2 installed. I did not see a SPT directory in my Falcon directory. I have the SP2 installer expanded and there is a F4 Patch directory in my Falcon directory.
Seems like the auto installer would put in al this stuff and you should have to add lines, since there isn't a readme file tellign ya to do that. Just a suggestion.
Thanks for any help you can give me.

No SPTinstall will not be "expanded". its a program to rebuild the terrain files.

If you do not have SPTinstall.EXE (yes exe, an program to execute) in your falcon directory then download it here: http://www.pmctactical.org/f4/downloads/SPTinstall.zip
and unzip it to your falcon directory. Then run it and browse into terrdata\europe and click Create button.

Let it run, it takes long time to complete.

Do you mean your theater.L0 file is 98.5mb of size?

Yes I drawed that ugly colored image so some art people might get annoyed and wanted to draw us cool European Theater switch art.

I don't know what is the "error" in that, other than it sucks of course. The switching totally works, the art is just ugly.

Error would be if the whole image would be missing I think.

It works for me on win98se standard falcon install without any problems. It works for most other people too. I still don't know why it fails to some guys, like you for example.

What is your windows version btw?

Thanks Snakeman:
I ran the SPT and it set it up. I took a OCA strike from Stutgart. Everything was running great. I was on my way to STP 2 about 11 miles out and I just kinda faded to desktop. No hard crash, just faded on back to desktop. From what I was able to see, I am looking forward to this theater. This may be a SP2 problem cause I think its happened before with the Korea files installed. I'll let ya know if it works out, but wanted to tell ya thanks for the help.

Thanks Snakeman,

After I followed their instructions, regarding the file theater.list and I installed and I expanded SPTinstall.exe, everything was perfect.

SnakeMan:
I am running Windows ME. I took off XP Pro because of problems with my F22/TQS. It works fine in ME.
I am still getting the CTDs about halfway to Strpt 2. It just dumps back to desktop. I uninstalled the Eurppean Theater and flew several missions in Korea and no CTDs. I gotta guess its something with one of the SP2 files. I had base switching activated, do you think that could be it?

Someone said it was the B-1B 3d model that do not exist in SP2 but does in upcoming SP3.

I should do more friendly campaign file for it. Actually, if that does not show up soon please remind me ;)

I uninstalled all the SP2 patchs and then reinstalled the ETheater and then repatched the SP2 files and flew a barcap. Worked great. I'll do a fresh install tomorrow and check it out. I did not install the base relocator patch. I'll try it after a fresh install. Long boring, no bandits barcap too. :D Image

one question about the use of this Theatre with SP2:

will it replace korea, or will it be selectable as an extra theatre in the theatre selection screen?

I couldn't find that info on the info page.

so, I went ahead and installed the thing.

not I'm faced with the following problem:

I tried the saved campaign, but the map is stretched like this:

I installed it by running the .exe file that was made available on the europe theatre page.

is this normal? or did I do something wrong?

Its normal for SP2, this is one of the occupation map fixes that only comes in SP3.

one more thing,

When I was making a small practice TE yesterday, I wanted a tank batallion ot move a little. but I could not assign waypoints. this leads me to the assumption that somehow the roads don't work.

is this a bug? and if so, is this a known bug?
