Expanding the Vietnam Operations

Post by WOLF-257 » 2001-08-05 16:35:00

I wanted to expand on the Vietnam Add-on and work on a Campaign to hit targets in Route Pack 5 and 6 which takes in the areas north of Vihn.I took the current save0.cam file, removed all the squadrons, reduced the priority of the city targets south of Vihn, and then started adding squadrons back to it.I saved this file as save1.cam and reloaded it.The game is generating missions for all the squads ok and while they are farther north, they didn't go as far as I needed them to.It wasn't covered in great detail in the tutorial but is there a way to point the squadrons at a specific target area?Do I also need to go into the objectives list and reduce the priority of all the targets south of the area that I want to operate in?The main object of all this is to set up a situation that simulates the later part of the Rolling Thunder period when the F-105's were hitting targets in the Hanoi and Haiphong areas.

The way the missions are being generated is working better than I had hoped.I only placed 3 squadrons each at Da Nang,Korat and Sakon Nakhon and the mission generator is tasking Strikes and BARCAPS in such a way that the BARCAPS can be flown as escorts for the strikes.I fly online with Greywolf and his squad so this will work great for us.

I double checked and the tinkering I did has not affected the current released Campaign which was what I was after.

Hey great guestions!

Did you remember to change in the Campaign menu the two slots, Scenario and Saved Name?

Even if you edit the save1.cam and the scenario/saved name points to save0.cam - the cmp engine reads the data from ... save0.cam file.

Well no. This is best handled by the PAK screen in the actual in-game campaign and ...

... with priorities. Yes I think so. Havent actually tested this but I remember Julian told me once that target has to have priority 30 (or higher) for it to get targeted for an air stike (dunno havent tested this myself, but usually Julian knows what hes talking about heh).

So why not drop the priorities for objects in the areas you do not want to hit, that might do the trick. Although remember to leave the priority cities (PAK) to 81 or higher.

Sounds good, as Vietnam has basically two empty campaign slots free, maybe we can spread the actual campaign into two or even three different periods of the war.

Let me know how it turns out, I might want to get your work for next Vietnam release :)

I changed the save name but not the scenario so I'll do that now.I went into the game last night turned on all the objects in the map, accelerated the clock to X64 and just watched. There was a lot of activity so I'm going to assume that what modifications I did are being accepted by the campaign engine.I'm not sure why but there are a lot of aborts in the BARCAP missions and I don't think it's lack of targets as the small inset mission map is showing Migs in the air and from the movement of the planes it looks like both sides are ingaging.I'll keep updating this thread.
