MSFS models for F4

Post by ccc » 2002-02-16 12:10:00

Spent few hours checking MSFS5/98/2000 a/c models for F4 Database, here's the list:

a/c----comment(great=adequate poly count and layout), poor(poly count too low, inadequate modeling)
---------------------------------------
MB339----great
AMX A1/B1--good+
F15C--good, better than original.
F15B/D--ditto
F15E--ditto
Buccaneer--fair, low polys
T38--great
Tornado F3--great
A4F/Q--great
Jagaur two seater--good
Vulcan bomber--good
Super Etandard--great
F14--good+
F18C--good+
Cheetah B--good+
Mriage IIIE--good+
Mirage F1--good+
Viggen JA37--fair+
Harrier--good-
mig21bis--poor
RA-5C--good+
F100D--great
F101--great
F102--fair
A6--fair+
JAS39--fair+
RB-66--fair-
SH-3--great
U-2R--great( thanx to Rick, we've one in SP2)
=============================================

If you have nice models to share with us( or some MDL to dxf converter), pliz drop me a line.

note:
1. my MDL converter failed to convert FS2002/CFS2 models. the poly count is too high.
2. no FS2002/CFS2 models. thanx
3. reasonable poly count and detail, around 1000-2000 node.
4. better converted in 3ds format. or original DXF/3ds.
5. this doesn't mean we can use MDL directly. still got to do extensive tweaking and lod conversion. just too lazy to build something from scratch.

Hi CCC,
I have seen a MDL dxf converter. I just need some time to find where I saw it. Will get back to you.

Been seaching now. I found something I hope will work. I'll upload the file to the LODeditor group--> tools. The file is called mdl23ds.zip

Also seams that you have to have the file you want to convert to 3ds in the same location as the converter.

I haven't tested it yet, so I can say if it works.

Then the only thing that is left. From what I've seen is a MDL-> dfx converter but then you need the specially desinged 3D program that was made to FS series some time ago.

CCC, you once said that you once had this "pug-in/script" that you could convert directly from mdl to 3ds.. still to clue of the name of the file or site that you once found it on?

OK - i have made you boys a video tutorial on how to get FS models into Falcon 4 - it is about 6 minutes long (20Mb)...

Seeing that my site (666th.com) is down due to exceeding bandwidth - any offers on where I can FTP this clip and 2 other tutorials you would like

1. How to import FS Models into Falcon 4
2. How to import FS2004 terrain tiles into Falcon 4
3. Cockpit editing - the way it should be done

Cheers
