Looking documentary films on Video or DVD

There was no mention here in the forum about anykind of documentaries on video or dvd format.

I posted this into the falcon 4.0 area as the material I'm looking for is for both theaters... Vietnam and Desert Storm. Also other kind of good war documentary or specific aircraft/special forces etc material is very welcome.

My collection currenly is poorly equipped with one 4hour BBC documentary about the Gulf War and one 3h video cassette full of Discovery Channel "Wings" series about the gulf war aircrafts. I need more.

The format I'm looking for is of course DVD but it might be that most titles arent release for dvd, so video pal/ntsc will do just fine.

Here is something I found on dvdempire about Vietnam war, the two disc dvd package contains 624mins of material, whoah!

Am I only dreaming this, but couple of years back I remember seeing advert of this CNN Gulf War documentary, kind of all CNN material put into one big pack. It was like 6hours or something... is this true, anyone else heard/seen this CNN package?

Actually its not any specific video "clip" what I'm looking for... just normal cnn/discovery/etc type of documentary. Of course its my intention to bring something from it to the theaters I'm building, whether its just knowledge or actual video material (this would be best taken from DVD source).

What do you guys think about the link that was posted above, two dvd discs of Vietnam war material?

The nam package is up to you,personally i wouldn't get it, you want the air war stuff. Now i have video, but would need to get it converted to dvd in order to send it to you. I will ask my friend who is capable of doing this if its worth it. Then we would have tons of material. I got gulf war stuff too.

Heheh no no. I mean dvd is the best option to have, it is not absolutely the only way to watch documentary

I have several video's that are no longer produced on the air war in nam and the gulf. I purchased some in the late 1980's, early 90's.. I could get them converted to dvd(which i should do) or i could send you PAL video. The bn option is best because i have that program on tape its called alpha strike, its more than enough on nam, Col. Broughton is interviewed, excellent program. I'll order 2 copys, they are cheap, and send you one, how's that?

That is very expensive, I've heard that the empty DVD-R disc costs more then normal hollywood movie dvd disc on stores. Of course, if we are talking film material that is "not available" anymore and we want to save the quality for years to come, then it would be good idea to convert it to vcd/dvd format.

Have you find out how much would one videotape -> DVD burning cost?

Hmm you said order, are they still available somewhere? Or did you mean you have two tapes home right now?

It would be very nice indeed if you could send me one. Of course if we talk about stuff thats still available on the stores, then I should order it directly so there is not too much trouble for you.

The dvd's are on order. 2 on the vietnam air war and 2 on the Gulf war. Sometimes they choke and tell you days later its no longer available so keep your fingers Xed.

To bring up this important topic (for me), I'm still looking for anykind of war documentaries on Vietnam and Desert Storm, also as this is six years bump for this topic we now also need Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom documentaries.

As the internet bandwidth capabilities and transfer networks like torrent has blown wide open since the initial 2001 posts in this topic, now I'd be very happy to receive download links for videos of anykind.

So if you have knowledge of documentary types of videos on the net, or some excellent dvd documentaries in shops, please let us know in this topic.

At currently I do have the mentioned Secret War documentarys on DVD and 30+ VHS tapes of Fox News live feed from Operation Iraqi Freedom, but those tapes are not available to me at this time and needless to say capturing & converting such huge amount of material into computer would require substantial investment on hardware (capture card, insane hard drive space and then finally time to encode and burn them to dvdr). But at least I have them stored in safe place for future use.

Another idea - there are some utilities for extracting the youtube/googlevideo videos into a "normal" format. There are ALOT of combat vids available on those places.

I use a plugin for Firefox called Ook. Yeah, strange name, but it is pretty slick.

I hate youtube its so lame, so yes if there is util/plugin to rip the video out of there it would be cool. Dunno about the quality as I think the youtube begin with is poor quality (thats why its lame/sucks).

Do you have some good combat video links for youtube or google video?

I don't really have any favorites bookmarked or anything, but search for any plane you're interested in, or theater.

For instance "Iraq aircraft combat" search pops up some interesting stuff. Even just "combat aircraft."

Some nice footage there

Had some fantastic footage of the 1990 gulf conflict but my four year old son got the dam videotape and nureeled it all over the front room and himself

Anybody have any idea what this is: Fighter Pilot Operation Red Flag torrent.

It is excellent DVD quality in Xvid format. It is 700MB and includes the movie an Air show from the movie and the making of the movie.

This is a production based on a real Red Flag taken in Nevada. AFAIU it is half real, half fictional, with many real shots of real action and some FX and computer enhanced scenes. Originally it was intended to be shown on I-MAX films, and there is a HD version overthere.

I liked it.

I quickly glanced it through, I can recommend it as there is quite nice flying scenes. I have no clue of the Nevada Nellis redflag realism, but if nothing else its nice flying footage.

Are there similar videos/movies like this out there?

Also btw, is there any comprehensive documentary made from beginning to an end of Operation Iraqi Freedom?
