when news come, no flashing red dots on the left upper corner 2d map.
only few armour units near kuwait border.. and only one armour unit moving north.. most blue units are static or moving south.
hmm.. the ground offensive is not that striking.. any chance to make them more aggressive?
in contrast, air operation is going well.

What does this mean? Where did "csi" come from?
the names of the states involved in this scenario are wrongs:
csi instead of iran
south vietnam = saudi arabia
north vietnam= iraq
cina (prc)= israel
...
my installation is falcon4 AF
It's "CIS" = Confederation of Independent States

i found some ground unit placed by TCL, are not near or on a route.. they become totally static. ODS1991 doesn't seem to work right.
another check - ODS black pheonix, run to day two. this time few more ground units moving. 2-3 armour, and few infantry, successfully take kuwait , kuwait intl airport, and few spots. not ending yet.
still notice some units not moving, or move to and fro along a road.
once kuwait down, i found the ground offesnive target become empty.. means ground offensive AI has no idea where to attack.
hope the ground offensive could be more aggressive.
i checked all *.tri, there're still left few politcal spots to capture before ending the war.

- [obj movement cost], the values are high for many bridges and obj.
- there're broken road and missing bridges around kuwait-Saudi border, make many blue units unable to move further.
-the ODS-feature.bmp used to CATE-tile terrain, has many thin blue rivers in desert area - i think they should be dry river bed? ground units probably stalled due to broken roads or missing bridges at these areas. my test shows only one road to kuwait is open, the other along coast line is broken at border.
- i test with my tweaked tri. both sides retreating in the begining, tho blue is on offensive and the ground posture shows major offensive. it takes a long while a TCL-generated armor unit moving to capture few kuwait towns, moving back, then another armor unit takes over the advance.. the offensive power is horribly weak. anyway, with air superiority, blue take kuwait city around day 3.
- i noted the win-condition is set to be capturing Kuwait city and Barsa now..the road to victory seems longer than expected.. with many high mov cost bridges ahead

-tho blue ground posture is major offensive, i did not see any blue unit moving north to capture Barsah.
- no blue unit moving at all. i check JSTAR - the only visible move is one or two blue units, moving to capture kuwait, then retreating. after that, all units are static.. along the horizontal FLOT seperating Iraq and Saudi Arab.
imho the bug is broken roads and missing bridges.. which probably come from dry rivers on feature bmp, autotiled by CATE. i'd suggest erase those rivers, then run CATE again.

I just tested this theater in OF.
1. Installer runs seasonswitcher but it's compressing korea's tiles. Have to re-run seasonswitcher again after install's finished.
2. In TE module, after pressing the "BACK" button, game freezes up.
3. Cannot display threat circle in campaign, results in CTD. I remember it's caused by imcompatible data in saveX.cam and the DB?
4. New entries in theater.lst did not start with a new column.
So currently both campaign and TE are unusable....

Re: ODS v0.7 bug reports
For a bug to be reported it must be reproducible. If it only happens to you once and then you cannot jump right back into the sim 3D world and perform the same steps again to create the bug then don't report it. Because it you can't reproduce it then no one else will be able to reproduce it either.Polak wrote:Since I am perhaps the most frequent tester of this theatre, please instruct me how to gather and document bug findings in some organized and classified manner according to some order of magnitude and importance in each category.
You need to give as much information about the bug as you can gather, i.e., what conditions existed when you experienced the bug. Small bugs like "Airbase tiles at airbase xyz are not aligned properly with the airbase 3D model" are simple to report as by reporting the name of the airbase anyone can jump into the 3D world and take a screenshot to document what the problem is.
Other bugs are more complicated. For example, you could be flying around in the 3D world just fine until you get to a specific region of the theater map and then the sim crashes to desktop for no apparent reason. After many, many hours of research/testing and elimination of possiblities I tracked this down to a bad objective (city/town/village) on the map. Eliminating this objective (which I think wasn't usable in the AF database) eliminated the problem of crashing to desktop when I flew through that region of the theater map. In this later example you would need to document as much as you could think of including your system specs (RAM amount, video card specs, CPU, O/S), what area of the map (as specific as possible) you were flying in when the crash occurred, how many times you were able to reproduce the bug and exactly what you were doing when the crash occurred. Remember that you probably won't know the exact cause of the bug (at least in this example this is the case) so it starts with a "scattergun" approach to reporting the bug, i.e., the more information given, the better, because we have to close in on the cause of the bug by eliminating other possible causes to zero in on the actual cause of the bug.
Basically, keep in mind that if you think the information you have about the circumstances under which you experienced the bug are important, then report them with the bug. The more information reported, the easier it is for someone to find the bug and fix it.
As to the magnitued of the bug(s) you find, Snakeman will establish priority of what needs to fixed first, in what order.

TE route test shows.. from south of Kuwait border to Barsah .. is ok.
minor bug within whtie box, ground units may be diverted to that airbase and won't move north.

Re: ODS v0.7 bug reports
for historical ODS1991 dev, i think the minimal work is ensuring the main combat route open. the move all TCL-placed units back to main route, so they can move all the way from Saudi-kuwait border up to kuwait, and finally Al Basarh. the famous ground manuvor " Left hook", will need new obj-linking and road-tiling to create the routes.
for historical 2001 capturing Baghdad.. just extend the road-checking work to Baghdad.

Re: ODS v0.7 bug reports
the yeloow box.. if you order a uni moving from kuwait down to saudi border( vice vera), it chooses a circular route to avoid the yellow box area. BUT if you move the destination circle slowly, one town after the other, the ground unit still can move along the coastline route!! it means the move calculation favor a detour route than go thru that box area.. well imo those blue line river should be dry river beds. minor re-tile tweak should fix it and force ground unit to pick coastline route.

Re: ODS v0.7 bug reports
(AF) When in a multiplayer TE, if anyone tries to connect to host after the host is in the 3d world, it causes the host to CTD. Reproducable and has happened twice, we now know to avoid it like the plague. It probably works the same in campaign mode, I wouldn't know, I didn't get this theater for its campaigns. Not sure if there is anything PMC can do about this.
Campaign is spelled "Operation Dessert Storm". I like desserts though, so maybe we can let that one stay
Just to let you guys know and give some thanks, the 16th has had some fun with this theater, I love it. We had a 10 man flight up in it last year around this time, TE of course. We also flew the Operation Opera reenactment twice, one of the times we CTDed before we got the Baghdad due to the aforementioned don't-connect-to-host-if-host-is-in-3d-world CTD bug, but the other time went very smoothly! I got all shakey and full of adrenaline as we popped up to hit the reactor in the middle of the Iraqi air defenses after a 1h 45 min flight (or however long it was) from Israel, 150 feet above the desert, and I had MADE the mission and KNEW what to expect
I'll post more bugs as I can think of them. Is it necessary to actually go through and list all the airbases that have tiling issues? Pretty much all of the issues can be spotted by just viewing the recon.
