The original 24bit JPGs are terrific but I lose a lot when downloaded as the zipped 8bit gif.
Is there any way to preserve the color depth?

Each small action pic on splashsceen( total 5 pics) uses limited 16 colors when lighten up, and another 16 colors for dark pic.
if your pic not well tuned before melting into the gif palette, you'll get all pics screw up.

For more colourdepth you need a lot of more colours and they simply arent available.
Every pie has it's own rows in the palette and 32 colours wich are pretty much looking alike cant provide real depth.
The limitation of 48 colours i can use for my full colour versions of splashes cant provide much depth either, and often i am dependent on the original matching theses 48 a bit.

So Aeyes you like to tease with your full 24Bit image when in fact the actual splash screen can only contain a max of 256 colors according to the gif spec.
I did look at it at 256 and indeed it's very blochy.
The 32 and 48 color palettes you mentioned, is that a Falcon 4 limitation?
Thanks for your response.

Re: Aeyes' new splashscreens for Vnam!
Yup, welcome to limitation world, because that's what's Falcon development is all about, trying to get the max out of the limitations and trying to go beyond it.
The 24bit image you refer to is a necessary step because when i make a gif splash to a acceptable size for viewing it will be very grainy due to the resizing. So to be able to have a good impression the Jpeg's are resized to 50% before applying the palette.
256 colours is a pretty small amount for making quality pics and especially stretched out splashes. Nonetheless it's always better than the originals

Re: Aeyes' new splashscreens for Vnam!
Thanks for the education guys.
Over at Andre's Flightsim Cafe site there's an article on how to make 8bit gif splash screens out of 24bit images.
Man is this complicated. My hats off to Aeyes for attempting it
