512x512 theater
Gentlemen, after a succesful test of creating a 256x256 theater i would like to ask if the theater tools available now could be adjusted so they support bigger theaters. For example Dem2terrain is limited to 256.
I would like to go for 1024x1024 but that would probably be impossible 'cause of the theater map but according to my calculations 512x512 should be possible on my PC. Of course i think that the lower end desktops could have serious problems with it
Otherwise i would be willing to do the coding myself allthough i would need the source code for these tools.
thnx in advance

Big Theaters
Big theaters sound interesting - but a few thoughts come to my mind after having worked on four theaters now . . .
1. 64x64 is a huge task.
2. Flight times can already be pretty long with 64x64 and 128x128
3. The real interest for a large theater for me would be varied terrain - but with bigger theaters you have a huge task at hand to tile it - making tiles that would be interesting would take a huge effort . . . unless there are some new tools created to generate such terrain easily - - I wonder if we have the sort of developers available to carry that task to completion.
In many ways the current Falcon terrain seems to be limited. We could use a new way to make and apply terrain/objectives/features (including airbases) as a package perhaps.

Ok, so far there are 2 problemareas with my 512 theater.
The first is a less important problem where terrainview does not generate a bitmap. But this bitmap could be created manually with a few tricks.
The second problem is the a real problem which i hope can be solved by you.
Cate responds with a runtime'6' overflow at 80% while applying the changes (2nd step).
It is always at 80% my desktop (3,4ghz with 1g ram) and laptop 1,66 dual core with 2g of ram) so i am afraid this is a programming issue.
Now i know i could hand tile it but with that size of theater it's does not make me very optimistic
However Dem2terrain created the theater L2 which i am really happy about.
Any suggestions?

Perhaps use CATE save bitmap feature?Expo wrote:The first is a less important problem where terrainview does not generate a bitmap.
Does the same conf files work on smaller terrain?Cate responds with a runtime'6' overflow at 80% while applying the changes (2nd step).
Are there TDF's involved in that proccess?

I do think i will be able to work both problems, allthough this will take me some time.
