build PAK map: help please

Post by Joker621 » 2003-03-03 11:23:00

dear sirs,
I'm in trouble to create PAK map.
I've read accurately 'ultimate theater tutorial' and 'PAK tutorial', but I'm unable to see pak map (insert -> build PAK map... the screen flashs, but I see nothing).
Please, any tips/suggestions will be very appreciated.
thanks in advance.

Hi Snake Man,
thanks for your courtesy.
(my PC PIII/1000 WIN98SE 512 MBRAM, my working theater YellowSea)
How I create PAK map:

1. I start tacedit2.46, and I clean features of save0.cam (saving and restarting tacedit each time)

2. I start tacedit2.46, I select map view (from left columm), I select Objectives -> import Objectives and I select village1.csv. the map is fill of colored dots.
I save as YellowSea.wch in ...\campaign\YellowSea dir.
exit from tacedit

3. I start tacedit2.46, I select map view (from left columm), I select view -> view Objectives -> view All, then I assign Current and Orig Owners to each objective (press left mouse and drag around the objectives): china 5, DPRK 6, japan 3 and ROK 2.
I save and restart tacedit2.46.

4. I select view -> show Links, I select Edit -> Link Mode, then I drawn a line between two objectives on opposing teams: japan-ROK, ROK-DPRK, DPRK-china (when request I browse to YellowSea.thr): total 3 connections.
I save and restart tacedit2.46.

5. I select view -> view objectives -> and
I leave just cities, I select view -> show primary, still view -> show parent links. then I update some priority cities up to 100, some at 95, 90, 85.
I save and restart tacedit2.46.

6. I select view -> view objectives -> and
I leave just cities, I select view -> show primary, still view -> show parent links.
I check all links are good, then I select Objectives -> remove bad links, then Objectives -> check objectives (and it appears 'Bad Feature Count' for all objectives (????, simply I press OK each time; a lot of times), Objectives -> repair objectives, Objectives -> auto flag objectives, and finally Objectives -> clean objectives flag.
I save and restart tacedit2.46.

7. I press Map button (right), I click 'set new map size', then OK.
I select Map View (from left columm),
I select Insert -> build occupation map
(I browse to YellowSea.thr)

8. I press Insert -> build PAK map ... the screen flash, but I see nothing.
that's all.

Please, help me to solve this problem.
thanks a lot for your continue support to theaters production. best regards.

Hi Joker621,

I have exactly the same problem. Bad Feature Count is displayed after check objectives in TacEdit, and pak map is not diplayed (though it is generated). After I tested the theater in SP3, only Instant action worked. When I select Campaign or I try to build a new TE, my computer hangs.
Did you use the village utility or the PMC scripts?

Hi CCC,

here's theater datas:
Theater name: YellowSea
Theater size: Regular
Size (L2 segments): 64 x 64
Size (L2 tiles): 1024 x 1024
Size (Nautical Miles): 552.377 x 552.377
Resolution: 0.134858 Nautical Miles
Centered on: Lat 37.7 Long 125.7
NW: Lat 42.3031 Long 119.476
NE: Lat 42.3031 Long 131.924
SW: Lat 33.0969 Long 120.205
SE: Lat 33.0969 Long 131.195
Highest point: 8711ft
Lowest point: 0ft

I began this theater 1 year ago, but my HD dead, so I've lost a lot of work. Really, that was just a TEST for me. I modified several original F4 tiles, making road nearby river on the same tile, improving tiles city, etc. and CATING about 1/2 of theater. Now this work is lost. So I restart, leaving tile work after general test of theater (at present day I've created a very narrow texture.zip-.bin with about 15 Htiles from original F4 tiles, some 128x128, some 256x256, and some 512x512).

My first objective is to realize theater, then I'll think for campaign. However I'd like to build a THEORETICAL campaign where a strong DPRK, supported by PRC, launchs a massive attack against ROK, supported by Japan. So, it will be primarly a RED campaign. But anyone will be free to create its own campaign based on this theater. Now I'm acquiring info on DPRK strategic sites, and I'm trying to insert them on village1.cvs (test phase). The work will be a little long (work office, family, etc., and I'm solo working on this theater).

best regards.

Okay now we're talking!

Excellent post about how you did things, this is where we can start to dig into the problem you are having. Okay lets see...
quote:then Objectives -> check objectives (and it appears 'Bad Feature Count' for all objectives
But are these eventually fixed or coming back every time when you load your .cam file?

BTW: Don't use village util, its obsolete... today we use TCL scripts to create the PAK objectives.

Hi Snake Man,

EACH time I select Objectives -> check Objectives it appears 'Bad Feature Count' for all objectives (so them are never fixed).

I tried to investigate .TCL scripts (...brrr... my mind CTD!)
Here, I need a little help: how can I insert objectives (and other) using .TCL scripts?
Starting from *.tdf features (airports, cities, roads, etc) what do I do to import THATt objectives using .TCL scripts?
Still, can I add other objectives (I've found several bio-nerve-nuke DPRK facilities in the WEB)?
Please, can You send me just a little example of SUCH .TCL script?
thanks a lot for Your patience and support.
best regards.

Just create PAK cities and then run the create.PAK.objectives.tcl
quote:Starting from *.tdf features (airports, cities, roads, etc) what do I do to import THATt objectives using .TCL scripts?
Nothing, there is no TCL script for that because its handled by dem2terrain which makes the csv. Its all in the tutorials.

Well yes you can if you must. You need to insert the coordinates and appropriate values etc...
quote:Please, can You send me just a little example of SUCH .TCL script?
No, thats why we got the examples in Tacedit zip, Tacedit TCL corner here in forum (search for it) and PMC Korean Campaigns (download page). From those you'll find plenty of examples.

Hi Joker,

I found something very weird. I used the csv file produced by dem2terrain and now Tacedit does not have problems about bad feature count; nonetheless, Pakmap is not displayed. TE and Campaign did not work yet. As I am working with Win XP, I thought it was a good idea to try another OS. I ran Tacedit from Win ME in other machine within my network and surprisely PakMap is displayed!
Anyway TE and Campaign did not work, they keep hanging my Win XP.

still, I'm trying to modify *.tdf files (created from DEM2terrain9 to update road and river with some charts (that works).
still, I'm trying to modify obectives.csv obtained drom DEM2terrain to insert factories and other facilities, before import them with tacedit (still in work).

Hi Joker621,

Nothing is displayed on the screen when Pak map is created. The client rectangle of Tac Edit turns white and that is all. I suspect that TacEdit may not be full compatible with WinXP / Win2000. Hence, PakMap and perhaps other files could not be created correctly.
Since Pak Map might not be used in Instant Action, this part of the game works well.
I am going to try using WinMe to develop the entire theater from the very begining. I think this should be called "The Ultimate Theater Tutorial Dance" or "UTHETD" he he he.... I will let you know any new finding, and hopefully a workaround.

Gentlemen (Joker621 & Saul),
I was experiencing the White map created by using Insert/Build PAK map from my 98SE system and have just upgraded to XP and have the same problem.
The Occupation map is built fine and takes a little while to create, but when I try Build PAK map, the Map view seems to refresh but still comes up white.
You guys found any workarounds in the last 6 months odd?? :?

Peled sorry for late replay my friend. I'm working a theater called HOT (Hellenic Operations Theater) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v648/aplion/HOT-1.jpg
This theater is already playable in AF but still I have trouble making PAK map.
Ofcourse this is not my only problem as so far I'm unable to make a proper working campaign for this theater. Anyway I'm trying and I believe that there are good possibilities to succeed on this.

As you can understand it is another Greek theater but this time is only for AF and in English :)
