unclear part in the PMC ArmA 3 Ultimate Terrain Tutorial

Post by xpsion » 2023-03-31 11:21:42

Hello Snake Man,

In your instruction guidance for Arma 3 terrain creation, I am confused about the section on Terrain builder (see the part of the instructions I copied; between "******")
In this part you instruct to add an .exe path for starting ARMA 3 to the terrain builder settings , but with current buldozer sotware that comes with ARMA 3 tools , buldozer has its own exe ...
the link you refer to of the buldozer guide is also not mentioning this: P:\buldozer.exe ......

Are you refering to the setup path in the ARMA 3 Tools preference tab, or ?

i underlined also the last sentence of this section : .... where you installed steam arma 3 tools.....
> Also this i don't understand, as ARMA 3 exe in nno in tools but in ARMA 3 game folder...

Could you please lighten up, I may be overlooking something...

Best Regards,
Alex

Configure Terrain Builder
We are not ready to do any terrain work yet, first we need to configure terrain builder.

Start up terrain builder and then follow the buldozer configuration guide in ArmA 3 Buldozer page regarding terrain builder.

It is fairly easy, you can pretty much copy paste the launch parameters line from there. You also need to add .exe file path, this would be:

<steamPath>\SteamApps\common\Arma 3\arma3_x64.exe
Where you again replace <steamPath> with your own steam library path where you installed steam arma 3 tools.

No, it refers to Terrain Builder settings.
Hello,

Further on the terrain builder / buldozer setup:

The manual that comes with the current ARMA 3 tools in the link:
https://community.bistudio.com/wiki/Buldozer_Manual made the confusion....

It's setup differs from the PMC ArmA 3 Ultimate Terrain Tutorial

Can I assume the PCM manual has to be updated?

Thanks for the feedback on this matter.
Our tutorial is up to date. Hundreds, probably thousands of users have used it since 2017 when it was first published.

If you feel there is some part out dated, please quote the exact part and give reference links to exact parts (not just whole buldozer manual link) that are, well different, then show screenshots or write down exact steps how to reproduce the issue which is caused by our tutorial. Please note that just because some other page or video has it set differently does not mean anything, there are countless youtube "Mr Expert" videos which get it all wrong, they are waste of time.

Ok, ...

I got it, the whole problem actually started by my mistake that i used the arma 3 tool to extract the game data to the p drive before starting to use your manual and thus not using the mikero tools.
So the way of starting the buldozer is not the same / not according your manual ..... and then sh** starts to happen...

Sorry, my mistake !

Don't worry about it, from time to time someone asks questions like this and to my recollection nobody has been able to spot issues on a large scale in our tutorials. I'm always listening to valid corrections and would be happy to do edits if they are necessary.
