GIMP v2.99.18 Released: The Last Development Preview Before 3.0

We remind that a development version means that this is a release to show work-in-progress but also give an opportunity to the community to detect issues early and report issues. In other word, this is an unstable version and we do not recommend to use it in production. Use it because you want to help GIMP improve by reporting bugs.

GIMP v2.10.38 Released:

This (possibly last) GIMP 2 stable release brings much-requested backports from GTK3, including improved support for tablets on Windows. A number of bug fixes and minor improvements are also included in this release.

This is a short development update on our progress towards the first release candidate for GIMP 3.0. We recently reached the string freeze milestone. What this means is that there will be no more changes in user-facing text (like GUI labels and messages) so that translators can work on the final translations for the 3.0 release. Two months after releasing GIMP 3.0, we are delighted to announce the second micro-release, GIMP 3.0.4. This addresses bugs and also incorporates some of the fabulous and helpful feedback we have received.

Installed GIMP v3.0.4 just now, oh wow it looks different, hand-wavey completely different. Perhaps it needs some more configuration for the GUI, perhaps my text font size was by v3.0.4 default too large (my win10 desktop is like 300% GUI scaling), but it felt... claustrophobic, text was too large and almost everything was too wide to fit into their dialog areas.

Hopefully GIMP v3.0.4 is better than v2.10.30 that I was running before, because the switch over looks like its going to take few hours to get used to.

Also GIMP v3.0.4 looks so much different that v2.xx series that now all my tutorials featuring GIMP example screenshots are ... well not completely outdated but definitely people will be having problems that "why his example image looks so different then my v3.0.4 GIMP???" heh, first world problems, right

BTW I just woke up while doing that above post and I'm a bit sleepy, but... err why is this latest new release called "v3.0.6" when there is already "v3.1.4" out, what is going on with those version numbers, is GIMP team releasing like two branches of versions at the same time, uh oh so confusing

Hmm re-reading the v3.1.4 release news, guess its some "development release towards v3.2", ok got it

Hmm maybe I wont be "news posting" those development releases from now on as they are really confusing when version numbers jump back and forth, ok my bad, sorry about that, will do better in the future
