What is free, easy and good PDF file creator software

I know this is bit offtopic but we need to get those PDF manuals for the theaters, so it is kind of... theater.. you know.. tool ;)

When I did the ODS and WrpTool manual PDF files I had adobe pagemaker (or what was its name) installed, but I always hated that becase its huge program just to convert word .doc file to PDF.

Is there some free, easy and good word doc to PDF file converter software?

I've used a thing called CutePDF for a long time. Basically, it creates a "fake" printer that you can print documents to, then a dialog box pops up and asks for a path/filename type thing to save the pdf to.

Works great.

I know there are other things that do the same thing.

On a related note, I highly recommend something called OpenOffice (and particularly OpenOffice Portable). You can open/edit Word docs and other formats, and save/export to pdf.

Thanks CutePDF seems to work pretty good, it doesn't save those hyperlinks and index catalog but I guess we can live without them for now.

For me, the best : OpenOffice :!:

PDF export is native to the Writer component :). Free and... open  .

I used OO recently just a little and was REALLY impressed.

I'm going to try to transition to using it more.
