VTE TO DO content list

Post by Uglyboy » 2009-12-04 08:31:44

The title is temporary, i've not thought anything better for now

I think it would be good if we have at least a topic where we can keep track of all the stuff already done, or being worked, or that will be worked on in the future and their current status, like that one about the Artyllery in the A1 section, but enlarged for all the Vietnam stuff that we will do for the following A2 release.
For example something like this that is easily readable and gives a lot of information

U.S.
Aircraft Fixed Wing
Aircraft Rotary Wing
Tank
Artillery:
-Mod 56 Oto Melara, worked on by banana, status: ingame, pics (ingame or buldozer pics, maybe reference pics if it's not already worked on) etc...

This is just an example, i'll reserve the second post of this topic to make such list and will edit to add stuff when needed. I hope i'm clear on my intention, i'd explain more but someone said that i need to be more short and direct to the point :? so if you have any further question let me know

Yep good topic. Of course the backbone of units, vehicles and weapons is the current ArmA version, anything you add as TODO should build on top of that.

Keep the suggestions coming.

Thats a nice summary.
It would be also kind of you, if you would write down which units need replacement
in your book and what we can leave as it is (from the ArmA 1 stuff)

Anyway, great list!

Sure i can do that :D But more important who is going to model the replacement? I was just thinking if you can do something about that since you seem a very skilled modeler  Anyway i'll add also stuff to be replaced.
Oh and here is some more explanation about status
Suggested: stuff that need/should be done,
Planned: Someone say "i'll do that someday" ( perhaps you banana :D )
wip: self explanatory
wip-ingame: still worked on but working ingame
to be replaced: what it says
released: full release or included in a internal beta, or whatever, but it's ingame
Just to clear this for everybody :)
if you want to suggest something to add or even better to propose to make some of the stuff yourself please post here :)

@banana: it would be very kind of you if you can confirm me that you are working on some of the stuff i've posted here but that it's not on the blog, i'm not sure about the m114 for example, thank you very much

The M114 is work in progress right now, well at least early this morning when I spoke with Banana.

take a look at these, that could save us some work for the m113 and m113 chassis weapon based :?
http://www.armaholic.eu/vilas/scr/12_2.jpg
also the M109 on the right.. if we don't have a proper one yet... What do you think? Should we ask vilas for coperation/permissions?

XD i think vilas is often misunderstood, he actually cooperated with some mods, others well had issues with him for various reason, but he is not a boogyman come'on

Uglyboy, please PM Vilas and ask if hes willing to do cooperation with VTE once more. I can try to help him on config/model.cfg and tweak his models performance or anything I can help with.

Ok got a reply, it's very complex so i'll post it here without reassuming it because i don't want you to misunderstand :)

EDIT: i've sent the PM to you 2 guys, it's better

I know it's wrong to post PM but really it's such long and complex that i just can't sum it up , maybe i'll delete it after you read it, anyway what do you think?

Thanks, PM received and read. All is fine, too bad we won't be getting Vilas help, but I totally understand his position and there is no problemos on my side.

Its just shame to have to reinvent the wheel, but what can we do.

Now lets get back on topic to list & update those TODO contents for VTE :)

Little update on the list, as you can see i'm careful to add things on a TODO list that someone else is going to do

I would also like to talk about a thing now, from what i understand we are going to port all the current stuff from A1 to A2, but i was thinking, should we really port all the stuff or should we concentrate on what it's done and work better, with no glitch and also have a more significant role for the gameplay? For example, some models are very old, some of them also have bugs, should we port them and invest time and effort to fix them, or it would be better if we don't include them until we got a replacement, or until we re-do those? This way the workload will be less, the release would be more polished and people will also stop moaning  What do you think?

Its not going to be such a big deal to port the stuff, its mainly config stuff and small fine tuning. Not a problem for me.

The porting might be ok, but still most of the ported stuff have design issues :( And the quality of many of them is low compared to A2 standard, it doesn't bother me in A1 but A2.. :?

For now just write down the models that you'd like to have replaced.
Can't promise anything, but I'll definitely look into some of them.

I would also put stuff that was in Vietnam but we don't have yet and it's not yet worked
No problem with that.

I like the updated list. After that arty i'm making now, I want to make something different
and T55 does not sound bad for instance.

I have ryuaku.. something guys permissions to use his very nice T55. No need to model it anymore.

Checked the second post just now, seems like most of the stuff is "needs replacement", well... heh bring me the replacement models and I'll add them in

Added some stuff, banana would like to see your opinion, something you'd like to model there?
I'm carefull adding stuff because either i don't want to scare anyone with the sheer size of the to do stuff and also because i'm not totally sure about what we already have, would need to check the game every now and then :? It's fine for you if i add stuff there even if we could already have ingame?
I've also read documentation about japanese WW2 stuff used by VC and irregulars in vietnam, worth to add? I like the arisaka rifles :)

One could argue that this TODO list loses it meaning and believability if we add everything we can imagine without any realistic probability to get/model it. So it can quickly change from "TODO list" to "Fantasy list" ;)

Also there are few points I disagree, for example:

O-1 Birddog, needs replacement, why? It looks fine to me?

M67 recoilless is already added.

PBR has been in since OFP times.

M110 is absolutely horrible mock-up, if I'd continue doing it I'd remodel it most likely in modo as the horrific model is made in o2 now. Also the M107 is very close to M110 so we can use it almost straight up from Banana.

OV-10 Bronco as well as the Mohawk is WIP porting with permissions from Cheynenne64 guy. I most likely can get them in game shortly (I just need to create TODO task for them immediately so I don't forget heh).

BTW; we are heavily dedicated to the artillery project now so we will not start any other models in between. The last I heard from Banana is that the M114 is getting close to be ready. I personally haven't touched the M110 yet because I've been busy with the satellite work. You could say I'm lagging getting on-board the arty project, sorry Banana :)

O-1 Bird dog, maybe not a priority replacement, but it was missing doors and other details that i can't check right now, ( probably also cockpit, yeah i bitch a lot about cockpit i know :D ) i have to confess that i wrote that because i like cessna a bit too much
M67: never saw that
PBR: yep my mistake, i added it in the post, then i remembered it was already there but forgot to delete it from the list,
We are really going to get both OV-10 and OV-1?? :D
About the artyllery, sure keep things separate, also there is not really a timeline for anything here in this topic

The birddog definitely is not missing any doors, it must have been a glitch of install error etc.

Yes I have the bronco and mohawk pretty much done, models at least, even low res LOD's were fixed. I built them on PMC name space as I was thinking of making standalone releases out of them as they were not exactly following BIS modeling guidelines. I just need to throw them into VTE and check all loose ends. Should be no problem.

Can you post the new suggests in another color? like blue?
And when you got newer suggests, then the older ones go to normal black again
and the newer suggests become blue?

Not relating to this topic in any way, but any time a user updates his post regarding concrete new information he should be posting like "I added new info to first post." or "First post edited." etc so the topic will catch on the new/active posts. Of course if someone only updates post for typos or something, then there is no need to post.

Many many times I miss information because users edit earlier read posts and I have no clue about this.

So please, anytime you guys update the blog/todo page, please post something that update has been done.
