Bridge

Post by Planetscape » 2004-08-26 14:45:07

I have made a bridge on my island which simulates a piece of highway over a city. However, I can't get it flat. Every piece of the bridge has another height. I turned fit to ground off and I put them all at the same height ( 17 in this case ) Does anyone know a solution?

Shall I make some screenshots to show the problem?

image 1: As you can see this piece of the bridge is at 17 meters. I set them up all the same.

image 2: Everything seems to be allright in 3d view.

image 3: In Flashpoint almost every transition between a piece is like this.

-edit-

It's hard to tell from the 3d view what your bridge landing elevations look like because of where they got cut off. I'm thinking that when the terrain shifts due to ingame user changing of the terraingrid (very-low to very-high) the ends of your bridge sections are always get skewed. Try switching to very-low, observing the placement, and then stepping up. There were a number of complaints about tonal due to this particular issue, ie placing objects on ground that wasn't perfectly flat, or reliably consistent. Your specific situation involving SW-NE direction will likely have problems with OFP's corner-based elevation system.

That said, the information you seek is on pages 53 through 56 of the manual. I have some additional information and pictures in an appenix I wrote dealing with elevations, it's old and I need to fix the pictures, but you can get it here.

Yes shinRaiden is right, but I have always used the "normal" or "low" terrain detail setting, in fact I should try out the higher/heavier details on my new faster computer to see if it runs ok.

But yes please try the bridge aligning first on low/normal terrain detail settings on OFP.

You need to untick the Fit To Ground, then set the heigh and press apply. Do this to all the bridge objects.

After that you cant use align all obj to ground without locking the bridges or you lose the 17m height work. So be careful.

Let me know how it turns out. Good screenshots btw.

Hi Snake, thanks for the advice. What I don't understand is the fact that I turned out the fit to ground option. When I loaded the island again the computer turned them all on again. I don't understand it...

Ok, I tried out exactly what you said. No screenshot is needed, because it's still the same problem. I am affraid shinRaiden is right.
