Post by hotshot » 2004-03-20 23:03:35

Below's a picture, but the error reads:
Access violation at address 0041666 in module 'WrpTool.exe'. Read of address 00000060.

The screenshot was good, but could you give us step-by-step instructions of how to re-produce this access violation?

Also if you are not using default forest configuration file (I assume you are as the screenshot shows nogova forest 1) I'd like to see that too.

OK, well yeah, i'm using Nogova Forest 1 (i tried it with the others, they get the same error), and i havn;t used ANY custom objects, so far the only objects on their are those you see listed in the Objects list in the Screenshot: just some Official CWC and RES trees and bushes.
But here's a step by step

-Open up WrpEdit and Load the island
-Open the Region Tool
-Draw an area, then double click LMB to finish it
-Go to the FOREST Tab in the Regin Tool (already oepn at that tab though)
-Select Forest (Nogova Forest 1)
-Press Execute
-Error message pops up

When i close the Error message (either by clicking the Cross, or by Clicking OK), the Region Tool remains open, and i press Execute again, but the error message pops up again.

Thanks for your time.
HotShot.

P.S Just to let you know, i tried it with another island, and the same thing happened, so it must be something wrong with my WRPEdit, as opposed to the island.

Try the following:

1) create a complete new "empty" island and try there
2) try to keep the size of the region small
3) disable checkboxes (place text. + delete Obj)

any success?

Unforutantly no. I've tried all the forests, and various types (from the basic to the not-so-basic) and nothing works.

Hmm are you sure you have all the addon pbo's properly unpacked with the decrypt into the configured settings directory of WrpTool?

Could you load up Everon, zoom close to the forest area and take a screenshot for us?

Indeed as I feared, the settings are not properly configured or the addon pbo's are not correctly unpacked.

Please re-read the manuals install instructions just to make sure you didn't miss any steps and use wrong depbo util for example.

As far as i cna tell, i've done everything right, you can see in this screenshot where it is all located though, maybe it's in wrong place, but in the Manual says doens't matter.

wh4 t3h? Uh, all those screenies are normally installed in a sub-folder, "3dpreview". The samples should be in another tree under "Example_configs."

What did you use to un-rar the distribution files?

Can you post a screeny of your dePBO'd folder tree, and the dialog box "Change settings" from WRPtool?

This really appears to be a bad installation.

God knows it was ages ago. I thought it came as a ZIP file though anyway.

Do you mean these things?

All the other objects and textures work fine though, so i doubt its to do with the de-PBO'ing, or settings.

Re-read the manual, there is pretty much the same image as you posted with big red letters saying "WRONG".

Your configuration is wrong. Time to re-read the manual and do it all over again.

The one in the Readme that says WRONG, has each individual folder selected, mine just has the folder before.

So the one in the Tutorial picture that says WRONG would be for example: OFP/Data/Landtext
mine is OFP/Data
I've also tried just having it to the OFP folder, so without the Data subfolder, still nothing. As far as i can see i've done it right.

Actually you're really close for how you tried going about it. What I would recommend instead is that you have a whole seperate folder outside of your OFP folder to put the dePBO'd data into.

First off, iirc no official distribution of WRPtool was ever zipped. It's only come as .rar files. If you downloaded a zip file, or used some flakey extractor, it could have clobbered the subdirs. Or you could have the option to preserve folder structure turned off.

Anyway, when you use Amfali's decypt to explode the PBO's, you'll have a new sub-folder next to the original PBO. For example, (in your case) if you extract
C:Program FilesCodemastersOperationFlashpointDTAdata.pbo
you should have a new
C:Program FilesCodemastersOperationFlashpointDTAdata
folder, with the contents of the data.pbo in it.

Create a new folder, like c:ofpbase, and move all those depbo'd folders into it, so you have stuff like
  • c:ofpbasedata
  • c:ofpbaseabel
  • c:ofpbaselandtext
  • c:ofpbaseO
  • etc
Now in WRPtool, correct your settings to "c:ofpbase" and you should be good to go, after you get WRPtool reinstalled with the proper folder structure.

If you spend any time on OFP, you will soon have a massive bloated hard drive just for OFP. I keep all my exploded under a seperate folder as I mentioned. That way I only have to put one link into WRPtool.

The way you're trying is halfway there. You got the folders exploded, but you lost the folders representing the pbo's. You need that structure to get your map into the game right. If you had say C:Program FilesCodemastersOperationFlashpointDTAdata with the files from data.pbo inside it, then your settings links would be right.

The chaos that comes from this is two parts. The immediate problem is that you have a bunch of links to all the places in the BIS game tree that you'd need to point to.

The next problem is by having your data on the same HD, you're going to chug the fragmentation of your HD, and simultanious WRPtool fiddling and OFP testing will be somewhat slower.

Er, my bad. Looking at your screenies, you did have it right, you were just missing abel.pbo, cain.pbo, eden.pbo, data.pbo, data3d.pbo, O.pbo, and whatever 3rd party stuff you have.

Look at the screeny just above the "Wrong" pic, it shows a good way to store your stuff. The BIS folder stores all the subfolders dumped out by your depbo'er.

This way in WRPtool, you only need one manageable link, e:bis.

If you have breast's i'll kiss you Raiden :-* ;D
Just putting all the de-PBO'd folders in a new folder (C:/ofpstuff  for me) fixed the problem, forest has been placed A.O.K  :D
To think it was something as simple as that.
Thanks to SnakeMan and Dschulle too for trying to help out  ;)

EDIT: Just looked at gender, doesn't look like you do have breast's so you'll have to settle for a 'thank you'  :P
