Floating Forests

Post by CannonFodder » 2003-11-01 00:36:28

Firstly... WOW! WrpTool is fantastic. I've played around with all the other editors and yours is by far the best!

I've read the PDF file which explains the problems with floating "RES" Forests but it seems that the orignal forests float too! They are,

data3dles_su_ctver_pruhozi_t1
data3dles_su_ctver_pruhozi_t2
data3dles_su_trojuhelnik

I've "Aligned to ground" but they don't seem to wrap to the terrain (unless it's flat)

Please help... it's driving me mad!

Thanks again for making WrpTool

Checking on this...

Please post your config.cpp contents. Thank you.

The config.cpp is pretty standard... I didn't inclue the ReplaceObject stuff because I thought that was only for the RES forests?

After a bit more playing around, I found that there are a few other forest sections that aren't included in the obeject browser by default. Some of which are square and wrap perfectly. It seems that only the xxxxxx_T1 and xxxxxx_T2 won't wrap.

Thanks for your help.

i had a similar problem, but mine was with
custom p3d's i had made.they appeared
buried in the ground,so it might help...

open object inspector
select the object
uncheck "fit to ground"
set the y-axis to "0"
then re check the "fit to ground"
and apply.

this corrected my height fence,

ps.in the 3d view,the custom p3d's also appeared
that they didnt follow the land contours, like sticking in
the air over a slope, but ingame they were fine.
so it might be the 3d viewer.

This problem might be solved in next version, it also applies to other objects which should follow the terrain, like fences.

Current internal beta version of WrpTool has this floating forests issue fixed.

Tried jojimbo's method, unfortunately it didnt fix the problem, forest still float.
However, as soon as i re-d-load WRPEdit, i can try the other method mentioned.

CannonFodder,
Would it be possible for you to list the other forest objects you found, the square ones that will wrap?

Well all custom forest doesn't work here. But never tried your solution, would be a bit much work to do that on all forest objects. Is there a fix yet?

hey I found something strange, Ares Finnish Building Pack forest do work in Wrptool, while the BAS and Seb ilo don't. You might wanna check that out to see why?

the bas and ilo forests don't work well because they are made from squares and not triangles, and were not made to fit every terrain situation, heck when we made them we didn't really know what we were doing. They were made quite a while ago.

Wow... you are right, all the floating forest are indeed made of squares. :) Thanks for telling the cause of this problem.
