Well I had to open topic for this, even though there is little to tell.

I edited bunch of Taiwan v0.4 stuff today and apparently I had already edited much of it before that didn't come to my mind earlier heh. So now I put together the v0.4 release candidate 1. This means that its not the "v0.4" I would imagine, but we need to get some testing for the new installer as the days are counting for christmas when all theaters need to be released. Taiwan is excellent start as its small 3mb download, we can fiddle through like 10 installers in no time/bandwidth.

So please try this out, install it to OF, RV, AF and please report all results back to here. This installer should now work in AF only computers.

And some changelog

- airbase selection map shows deafult korea, fixed.

- taiwan not in theater selection menu.. have to edit theater.lst myself. fixed?
- added japanese TDF data, airbases and all.
- installer fails on AF only systems, fixed.
- changed taiwan airbase types (17) according to real life data.
Take a note that this is not any Taiwan release topic! This is just development chatter as we need to get our bearings whats still broken and so on. Please, do some testing, do not tell anyone about this installer link.

on theater selection , show " art missing" - maybe use the gif i posted on the other thread for the time being?

in TE selection menu, right upper corner small map, taiwan overlaps on korea map.

p eng hu airbase > change to Peng hu, no space.

Changed the airbase name, also I discovered that the installed messes up the campaign directory install, it doesnt copy over the RV strings.* files and leaves the common- directory names into the campaign dir. Shuold still work ingame but needs a fix.

PAK map is still showing korea outlines (the PAK itself works ok), but frankly I can live with it for the moment :)

some Taiwanese airbases need correction.. please change their airbase type.

the following four are army base. remove their airbase type.. or inactive them.

PA KUEI <army>
ROK: AO HU KOU <army> > now call [ Hu Kou]
ROK: LUNG TAN <army>
KUEI JEN <army>


the following airbase should use type 1 > see pic above.
==========================================
PENG HU 2-20 type 1 2-20
CHIHHANG 4-22 type 1 21-3
KANGSHAN type 1 36-18
FENG NIN type 1 21-3
ORCHID ISLAND type 1 32-14

Also the airbases on blue side Kimen islands(3 AFB) and those on Ma tsu islands(2 airbase) should use type 1.

PRATAS ISLAND should use type 1 too.

in TE mode, once i create my own TE, the small map at Right upper corner shows correctly. 8-)

in TE mode, all taiwan bases become RED! :shock:

Well this is just great, I fucked up the campaign files and now have to revert pretty much all work back to v0.3 :x

I imported Japan objectives, but forgot completely to check which ID's it uses, so then there of course were dupe IDs, I didn't notice anything until much later (now) as almost all China airbases changed to some villages or whatever objects.

Not only that, but I discovered that I already had linked the theater once before, oh well now its done twice... except that with this last fuckup, I have to now link it for the third (3) time for crying out loud :(

Obviously I'm fed up and wont do it for this next release. The campaign will now have new japanese objectives, the two islands changed to blue side, the 10 naval ports for Taiwan and hmm the old incomplete linking.

I put up RC 2 now, I salvaged what I could from the campaign objectives and put together a new one. This time with full backups, I promise :D

Whats new in this version? Umm few fixes for the installer, please check campaign dir etc. Check that the maps are showing properly (except PAK boundaries, thats broken). And as usual, try to install on all F4 versions so we can see if the installer works or not.

all red airbase back.

of course, all the airbase type edit are gone.

say, can you do the obj-linking on taiwan only? the ground battle is limited on Taiwan.. and, if you leave Chian obj unlinked, will it affect the campaign progressing?

Yeah I can promise to you that I'll completely link Taiwan only for RC3. Who knows if I get supa-dupa motivation explosion, I'll re-link the China for the third time, but I'm pretty sure that wont happen.

If I leave China unlinked it effects the campaign, even air to ground war to some extent and naturally it completely kills the ground war in China.

BTW can i add few more objectives to it? such as radar stations, nuclear power plant, military research complex, and electric power plant.

does adding new objectives need obj-linking from the start again? or they better be added before you starting linking them?

You are very welcome to add more objectives. Basically I can now wait for you to add the objectives (ie I dont do any save0.cam edits), when you are done, just export all objectives into CSV file, rar up that file and email attache it to me.

In fact you could do even small scale (very small and coordinated) hand tiling for special interest areas so that you use the terrainview export segments feature. But before we do that, we really need to coordinate the process, as I said, the CATE conf files must be finalized before any large scale hand tiling can be done. We dont want to do any manual labor as long as we have automated tools that can do the same.

Anyways start adding objectives, I'll wait for your CSV email :)

Perhaps you could only add like <10 objectives as test and I'd take a look that everything goes well. After that you could add all the objectives that need to be added (including adjusting airbase types etc).

@SM - headache time back, i can not add one single obj to taiwan theater TE or campaign!

last time i tried to add pyramid obj to ITO theater, no success. but Fred did add it. i think i've difficulty with TacEdit!


@derstef, many airbases are very close to seashore in this theater! leave it alone, we'll need new tile for them.

btw.. airbase may need tile leveling process.

RV uses falcon4trees.fed and falcon4trees.ocd by default - so if you are making edits to objectives maybe try renaming your files so the ones you apply your changes to get used. - -Else rename your *trees.* files so they are not used at all - but then NO TREES!!! That is the clue to watch for - if you see trees then you know you are using those FED and OCD files.

On airbase in water - - you should be able to move the airbase on land in Tacedit - just pull up the cam and TE files and drag your objective in map view back to land . . . do it for all of them ensure you the same coordinate for consistency.

CCC - help derstef out with Fred's Airbase leveler tool. That is an easy one.

Still not sure about the Pyramid objective - I never did see that in game, did you CCC? It is definitely in the database - - but just not sure why we can't see it. More tests need to be done - ANyone else successful to add a new objective or add a new feature to an old objective? Maybe first focus on using old objectives and old features and do tests on the side when you can to figure things out.

i installed RC2 over RC1.
I would not recommend it.

Thanks, I'll promise to add those into RC3. But lets keep the features pretty much locked now, so we only fix stuff that effects the installer or basically gameplay like CTD (if we can do something to fix them).

some airbase type are not corrected yet - in TE and all three campaigns.

please check pic below - airbases in yellow circle should be changed to type 1 single runway base.

BTW i also google japan bases on those islands - all should use type 1 single runway as well.

made a campaign based on save2.cam...
i just added near RL DATA for ROCAF + us carrier + AV-8B/F-18D (Marines) + some JSDAF ACs (F-15J, F-4EJ) and simulated Kadena stuff (E-3, KC-135, c-17,...)
So, i just overworked the ACs & Ships, no ground units.
works very well..

@derstef, cool campaign - it seems you put the whole PLAN warships on the map!!

ideally, the warships better be added in "groups".

say, put some cargo ship groups near major ports to simulate amphibious landing fleets. put groups of missile boats along offshore positions as defensive reserves, and major combatant groups into blue water as offensive units - the main target of USN attackers.

could you tell me which ships i should use? PRC frigattes, CIS-cruisers....???

at this stage of dev, don't bother to pick specific ship type. just use Cargo ships or tankers.

around 50-60, the PLA amphibous landing counted on thousands of armed fishing boats. PLA shifted to recruited cargo and tankers in 70-90..and starts to build more dedicated landing ships these years.

ok, i set the ships in groups and added also tanker/cargo ships as landing boats.


i made a screen of tacedit,so you can so which units i have added!

To simulate the RoCAF F-16 i decided for the F-16AM-B (Hulaien AB), F-16AM-D (Chiayi AB) & F-16B (on both ABs). (TRYING TO SKIN SOME TAILS)

i use two MLU versions to simulate the Airbase specific skins. so i give the F-16AM-D the "normal Roc tails" and on Hulaien the F-16AM-B use the "SUN Tails".
i hope you understand....

v0.4 RC3 tested with OpenFalcon.

te_new is ok now, and the Teams button back. Thanks Snakeman :).

Just remain OF ui problems with minimaps :

pretty easymade skins (sorry, small experience with Photoshop & my first skins) :oops:

working good, but little problems with mlu tail chute box and area around gun.....

sure, post the link to your campaign file. just campaign file - not skin texture for the time being.

jeah, but i don't think that the skins will ever be released, they are too bad...

good to see how far TaiwanTheater progressed !
I Have some problems at the moment with my RV INStall(yes, i am trying to install everything back again) , but once it is done i will be glad to fly ya'r campaigns along with ITO2 :wink:
