i have a problem with Iran installer under AF ... i get 2 errors
First i get window : No registry variables - F4 not installed...

and later terrain builder looks for theater l0 file, but only l2 file is installed...

btw it is mentioned to choose between RV/OF and AF but i cannot see where to select AF mode ??

anyone else testing under AF and seeing the same ?
or is it my install since i had probs with europe beta to ?
(at least iran installs some parts, europe installer does nothing on my laptop)

grts Mil

What does your registry say about falcon4?

There is no Europe installer for AF, yet.

Hi guys,

ive installed to Allied Force without any problems...

Installer asked which ver i had so i pointed it to AF as i fly that mostly and it installed seamlessly without any hassels, just letting you know to help narrow down your problem,

Btw ive got RV and OF installed as well just under different directory names so i dont think it has anything to do with registry keys or such...

So far in AF this Theater looks amazing...

Got CTD on exit from AF but we know about this already so no other trouble yet after 3 hours straihgt campaign play...

Hope you get it worked out and if i can help just say the word.

cheers :)

Installed 0.2 this afternoon in AF. Very smooth install; no problems. Good job on the installer SM! :)

Now bug reports:
1. No working ATC; needs updated stations.dat file for all airbases.
2. Kneemap needs TACAN/ILS channels and frequencies for major airbases.
3. Recon and Status neither one work from the campaign planning map. Just shows up as empty (nothing is listed in the status box and recon pop-up does not appear for any objectives selected).

Stations and kneemap are Red Dog's expertise and I havent seen him neither I know if he even wants to create Iran data.

Recon works ok for me, I use it constantly in AF since the add package is usually what I click after recon a airbase or other target.

Ok, now my recon is working (don't ask me why...must have been a glich of some kind).

I can help out on the stations.dat and the kneemap if Red Dog is out of the picture (which I think he is as far as theater making...but I don't know for sure). I have his theater spreadsheet with all the info on the earlier theater (including ODS), etc., so I can start from that.

The campaigns in this theater (and the new KTO also) are very strange. There numbers of land veichles can macth with the aircraft quantities. Why? The ration between is a "regular" army is about 8-10:1 or much for the ground veichles and in the real world also.

ok, i did i minimum install of the original Falcon 4.0 CD (not bms, nor OF nor RV) and after that , the installer worked as advertised... So i guess there is something in the installer that needs a certain registry file from the original falcon 4.0...

maybe this needs to be fixed for any version1.0 releases ?

The installer are designed to work with stock default Falcon 4.0 and Falcon 4 Allied Force registry installs.

OK heres a report so far on the installer.. I have Open Falcon 4.4.1 installed.. I downloaded the installer, unzipped it to the Microprose Falcon 4 directory and initated it.. It ran fine for me , it took about 25 minutes to do the complete installation, and I shut everything down I had running in the background with enditall beforehand..Installer seemed to work fine.. I followed Snakemans instructions to the letter.. Re-booted and went into the theater, and by the way I have dual installs on the machine, and I am useing Repace Launcher to boot up the game.. When I went into the launcher it showed me the Iran theater as it should.. I chose it and went into the UI screen.. I wrote a TE to allow me to cruise around and sightsee some and I was able to launch into the jet with no problems.. Now Im gonna go Bug Hunting.. Thanks for the hard work on the installer it works fime for my application.. PB :D

All three campaigns now generate a general protection error upon exiting from Allied Force after running each one. Anyone have any idea why this is? Or what can be done to fix it?

First post updated, just a bit. Its kind of confusing to keep the texture.zip/bin stuff in here and ODS, but anyways.

Bug report: Blue ground units in the save0.cam will not advance. You can select the majority of them and manually task them to an advance position (north and/or east of current position) and then their white circle will reset back to another position, usually south and/or west of their current position.

Ok, update: I added some more links down around AL BASRAH and it seems to help. You still have to kinda work with them to get them to move but they are advancing. Once they get past the Euphrates/Tigris valley they move a lot better.

Another bug report kinda: All the US Armor units are using M60A3 and M48 tanks. These haven't been in the US Inventory for years. Should be M1A2s or M1A3s.

Will have to see what can be done for the linking on north-east of Basrah. And I'll try to tweak the campaigns more for the next release.

Another update:

Just sent you today two emails with the working pak priorities, scf files and proper OOB flags to go with the updated strings files I sent as well. Next I will turn my attention to tweaking campaigns.

I received the files ok. Only problem I found so far is the campaign map being normal size, its not shrinked to show the full intel news map, perhaps you could recheck the scf you sent.

What campaing tweaks did you have in mind, you want the TCL files I used or do you just send me the info that needs to be added/changed?

Yep. You're right. I inadvertingly left out the modified CP_MSPUA.scf file. I have just emailed it to you. That should fix the problem. Let me know if it doesn't.
Snake Man wrote:What campaing tweaks did you have in mind, you want the TCL files I used or do you just send me the info that needs to be added/changed?
I am concentrating on save0.cam right now. I am really doing this to get much more familiar with TacEdit (haven't used it much before).

One thing I am experimenting with is getting battalions subordinated to brigades which in turn are subordinated to Divisions to show up correctly in the OOB so they appear correctly under their superior unit. I noticed that the tcl created units don't appear that way. I don't know yet if the things I am doing are going to be transferrable to tcl scripts or not yet. I'll let you know.

As to other campaign tweaks, I have some ideas about modifying units to use the more up-to-date units that AF put in beyond the SP4 database units. I'm identifying those OCD numbers and testing them out to make sure they work in the cam file. Also, I am working on reinforcements appearing. Made a little headway on that but still don't have it entirely figured out yet.

Bug Report

Post by Sherlock » 2007-04-13 01:57:42

All single span bridges are turned 90 degrees AND offset (because they are turned?) from the position they should be in.

SM, is this an objectplacer problem? Just wondering because I've always wondered how you place bridges; I've never done it/taken the time to learn how to do it.

Sure. Here is a series of the bridges I took at random spots around the theater. I used the "Iron Fortress" (Save2.cam?) campaign for these shots.

From the Armenia area:

From east-central Iran area:

From the central Saudi Arabia area:

Note that the bridge Icons were showing east-west bridge direction SOMETIMES when, in fact, the road it was on was going north-south. Problem :)

Ah I see, this might be because if I recall correctly, the old ODS tiles had the bridges on 128x128 res tiles and I just copy pasted one bridge tile... but, I just cant remember correctly. Hmm does ODS v0.512 has this same problem? (You havent tried 0.6 yet?)

Anyways what ever the cause was, bug noted and lets just say many bridge tiles are offset :)

Nope. ODS V0.6 does NOT appear to have the same problem. The bridges I checked in it were all oriented properly and either lined up very well with the roads or were offset to one side just a little bit (but it wasn't too bad). Did you need me to check V0.512 ODS?

Yeh...I finally installed V0.6 ODS ! :)

Another (maybe) bug:

Noticed last night for the pak area around Baghdad that the Primary city in that region is NOT Baghdad but is currently set to "Al A'Zamiyah" which is located just to the northeast of Baghdad. Was this a mistake or intentional Snake Man? Just FYI, when playing around with the campaign file I am learning TacEdit with, I changed the parent/child relations in just that area and made Baghdad the Primary city then relinked all the PAK secondary cities to Baghdad. Didn't seem to affect any thing. But I did read somewhere here that the iran.pak file should be recreated after doing something like this? Is this really necessary when the two cities are pretty much next to each other?

No need to check v0.512, I'll have to recheck the texture.zip for the tiles in Iran after next round of updates as I really think its the tiles, but who knows there might be the possibility that I used some wrong bridge placement script, but I highly doubt it as I only have that one for ODS bin.

The priority city must be a mistake, I guess its supposed to be Baghdad. I am not sure if the .pak needs to be remade if the cities are very close to each other, depends really if the pak area changes much or not.

Ok, then I guess add "change PAK city in Baghdad region to "Baghdad" from "Al A'Zamiyah" to the bug list above?

As well as adding the bridge issue....

Fresh RV install + iran.

install process smooth, take tens minutes.

pick historical campaign, the third one, jump in first flight of f14 as wingman, stationed at BAndar abbass airbases.

nice terrain. taxi and take off, found some nearby coast line has no tranistional tiles.. just sharp desert tile and pure sea tiles.

fly toward iraq target along coastal ridges, very nice terrain tile and shading - even go without SRTM. sure it would be even better with SRTM.

now .. CTD occurred suddenly when i sit in 2d pit.

The crashlog indicates some sound error, since theaters dont add sounds its pretty safe to say it is not the cause.

The historical Iraq vs Iran campaign didn't make to this release.

not sure if this CTD related to iran theater. i fly a DCA over north iran, exit campaign, then exit RV - got CTD. i encountered this type of CTD for several times, after i flying iran campaign.

BTW- awesome ridges over north iran- near caspian area! fly low thru the valley is thrilling!! too bad the TE map is not available yet. i think afghanstan should have similar spiky hills somewhere but.. its tiles make ridges look realistic. two pics from north iran, nice sightseeing!!

when i dreaming a Caspian sea scenerio, an idea comes to me that i better check PMC IRAN first.. oh yes- there's lower half of Caspian sea covered..

i set a F14 TE along Caspian sea coast for sightseeing..

- from SE to NE coast, terrain looks flat. some coastline is broken due to misplacment of tiles. few cities in water. according to Google Earth, the east coast are rocky/brownish.

- from East to West along bottom coast line, less misplaced tiles, yet some cities in water. i found airbases Rasmar? and Lennkran? in water.
according to Google SAT image, this part of coast are greenish with farms - yet we have sand desert coast in sim.

- moving toward SW corner of caspian coast..i can resist drop coast-touring, fly into nearby hills and valleys for fun.

- caspian sea.. my impression.. it's really big..no wonder it needs a fleet.

I continue my tour along west rim of caspian sea.

the bugs are similar, some misplaced coast tiles, few cities in water, sea tiles go uphills, and some rock-sand transitional tiles placed among pure rock tiles over the hills at NW coastline of caspian sea.

google SAT image shows..the west rim costline mix with sand/rock and few green farms.. and nearby Azerbijan hills are mostly green, not brown rock in current mod...

iran theater covers a variety of terrain features.. it would be cool - and boring flying over them in hours!
