Over 100 posts and still a newbie?

Hi SM!
Just wondering if I will stay a NEWBIE forever or if the forum software will someday award me with a new title? ;)

Heh yeah as you can see we run absolutely the stock default phpbb here with only exception the PMC Tactical Forums logo. It is my intention to bring in some "styles" design either from existing styles or do my own in some military theme (iron/blue grey aircraft paint/camouflage etc).

Custom ranks like in the old forum is on the list also. If I recall the phpbb configuration as of now, there is NO other rank besides newbie and moderators. Thanks for reminding me and I'll get my schedule adjusted to modify that quickly.

Since we are in the topic, would you have examples / suggestions how to setup the post number related to ranks?

Perhaps like
0-10 Newbie
11-20 Trainer
21-50 Co-Pilot

I could try to find the ranks from the old ubb configuration. Also now we come to the first "bad" spot on unifying two forums, dunno if OFP/ArmA guys want to be called Pilots or you guys want to be called Grunts hehe. But I guess thats the small price to pay ;)

Keep suggestions coming, I'll get around to configure the forum style/ranks very soon.

Yes sounds good. Is that the same or I mean the basic military ranks; private, corporal, sergeant, liutentant etc? Those military ranks would fit to both OFP/ArmA and Falcon 4 guys.

Actually, that is not a bad idea since the officer ranks in the US Air Force and the US Army are identical. Here they are going from lowest to highest (top to bottom), with the abbrieviations in parenthesis:

O-1: Second Lieutenant (2LT) or 2nd LT
O-2: First Lieutanant (1LT) or 1st LT
O-3: Captain (CPT)
O-4: Major (MAJ)
O-5: Lieutenant Colonel (LTC) or Lt Col
O-6: Colonel (COL)
O-7: Brigadier General (BG) or Brig. Gen.
O-8: Major General (MG) or Maj. Gen.
O-9: Lieutenant General (LTG) or Lt. Gen.
O-10: General (GEN)

Does that fit the bill?

The enlisted ranks in the US Army do NOT match those of the US Air Force. In fact, none of them even line up at all at any enlisted rank, E-1 through E-9.

Well, plus I was thinking that both OFP and F4 have an international following - so the E/O-# designations might be kinda USian-centric. (Not that there's anything wrong with that.) ;)

But, most modern militaries retain enlisted/NonCom/Officer designations.

You could add one at the bottom end, too - recruit. :D

That sounds good guys. So if we add newbie 0 posts first, then recruit on the bottom we stand at hmm 12 ranks. How about adding some more, in lets say US military, whats above General, I mean or does it go to the political arena then like Joint Chiefs of Staff (spelling?) etc?

I was just thinking that if we add the ranks, lets add good selection at one time so we dont have to shuffle back and forth.

Also, if anyone has any guidelines for the post counts, I'd like to hear about it. In the top posters there is two guys (me and ccc, us spammers haha) with over 3000 posts, then there is Widomaker with 1000 posts (odd even number, hopefully no bug in forum conversion) and then it drops to a 300 level where we have 7 guys, another 7 users in 200+ posts also. So I would like to get ready once and for all for the big posters in the future, but I have no idea what kind of post counts should I use now.

Oh and I guess I'll add those static ranks also, perhaps PMC guys, FreeFalcon, OpenFalcon, SPx, LeadPursuit (heh) guys and so on. What are the "major players" at the moment which should have static rank/titles?

Well, after the 4 star rank (O-10; General), there is the Chief of Staff of the Air Force and the Chief of Staff of the Army. Then there is the Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff, then there is the Secretary of Defense and, finally, the President. That is the chain of Command in the US Armed Forces. Of course, that doesn't take into account the Joint Warfare structure where you have CINC in charge of all air, land and see forces in a particular area and he answers directly to the SECDEF, CJCS and the President. His unofficial title is "Warlord". This would be guys like Schwarzkoff during Desert Shield/Desert Storm (He was Central Command, CENTCOM, Commanding General, CG). Does that explain it better and give you what you need?

Ok what about this:

Newbie 0-30 posts
Recruit 31-70 posts
2nd Lt 71-100 posts
1st Lt 101-150 posts
Captain 151-200 posts
Major 201-250 posts
Lt Colonel 251-300 posts
Colonel 301-400 posts
Brig. General 401-600 posts
Maj. General 601-900 posts
Lt. General 901-1500 posts
General 1501-3000 posts
Chief of Staff Over 3000 posts
Commander-In-Chief (for Snake Man)

so now we have (with Peled's addition) and adding mine:

PMC
FreeFalcon
OpenFalcon (not sure you are going to need this one; they supposely closed up shop)
Lead Pursuit
SPx (not sure you are going to need this one; anyone left in this group?)
F4ITDG (Falcon 4 Israeli Theater Development Group)
Mod Alliance (AF Theater Conversion Group)

For the Mod Alliance that would include me, Khronik, Skwabie, Liongreek, and Aplion. I don't know if all these guys have accounts here but I think the majoriity of us do.

Yes the list keeps forming up nicely. Thanks for the info, I'll try to implement it soon.

Now the custom ranks and ranks by post counts have been implemented. Hope they work okay. Thanks for everyone for suggesting them, appreciated.

Let me know if I need to fine tune them somehow.

Mod Alliance rank was removed and PMC Theater Developer was added, in fact it was changed.

Now some of the hard working theater guys here should receive the PMC Theater Developer status, there is many to list and I'd appreciate if you who had done cooperation with PMC now and before would step up and ask/remind me about this rank so I could add them.

Basically anyone who has or is helping PMC to develop theaters should get this rank.

Since RedDog is back from break, he needs his rank changed from regular military (captain) to PMC Theater Developer

Hey guys, I've noticed that in our puny little forums its very common to have nice people with low amount posts. Sure if you are not posting then you ARE a newbie, its a simple fact. But... the 31st post to become a recruit from newbie seems like quite ordeal for most users here.

So now I have lowered the rankings regarding posts counts to

0-10 Newbie
11-70 Recruit
...

Hope that's okay.
