Hey news junkies

I wanted to add some cool stuff to keep you guys updated so it was time to learn how to do RSS news feeds here. I have now added a test files for all sections. I would really appreciate if you guys would test them as I'll try to fiddle around them in next few hours/days to put in some news etc. I'm also thinking that same sort of news feed for the downloads page would be in order, although if I take the care to announce all download page modifications on the main news channel, then it would not be needed. Let me know what you think.

Here are the links to activate the news:

Falcon 4 rss

OFP rss

ArmA rss

VTE rss

ArmA 2 rss

ArmA 3 rss

Please check them out and give some feedback, I'd like to hear how they work and how could I improve them etc, is this the right way to handle the news etc. I'm new to this :)

I did the testing myself, works ok. The RSS feed buttons added now to the Falcon 4, OFP, ArmA, VTE and Game2 pages.

What are we suppose to see?
All I get when I click on the F4 RSS feed is XML code and text:

The first time you run it I think it should put some plain text on screen, at least in my Opera browser with rss reading capability it does that. Then it opens the RSS feed into the menu and should add the existing items in there.

Well like I explained, you should see the rss news feed on the appropriate rss client (I use Operas built in rss thingy), not just plain text.

Heh sorry if I assume this... but, you do understand that rss is? When I update Falcon 4 news, when you have subscribed to the feed you'll immediately get a notice that the news have been updated and it even includes the small news text I decided to write there. Its very nice method of keeping track, you dont need to hammer the index/news page waiting to see something, just sit back and relax, news comes to you. Very cool.

Yes it is. Did you get it to work, what browser do you use, maybe it supports rss reading directly?

Yes. The old #falcon4theaters channel is dead by now. But I'm hanging out at irc.quakenet.org server at #wrptool channel. I can be reached from there 24h pretty much.

Ok, I am ignorant about this stuff. I use IE6. How do I turn on whatever I need to turn-on to get this feed?

So I assume IE wont support rss news by itself, then I don't know any specifics other than to just use google to search for rss client. Heh one thing of course would be to change into Opera browser which is more nicer than IE anyways, it has rss support built in so you wouldn't need to worry about rss clients.

Honestly, the frequency we use for PMC Falcon 4 news is so low that I'd hate to talk you into installing rss client alone, thats why opera or other browser with built-in rss support would be so neat.

Ok, thx anyway SM. I am not willing to install another browser (takes up precious HD space on my laptop that I need). So I will just live with it.

thanks anyway.

Changed the game2 to arma2 in the news feed links, just in case someone still is using the old one, not that there is any news but heh, its good to be prepared for the day when PMC starts to put out addons for ArmA 2 :)

ArmA 2 rss

I'm looking for a RSS news creator php code for our web page, so that I don't have to manually edit the xml file. If anyone knows some code sources, please let me know.
